Son in-law has a BMW 3.0 diesel 2017, had terrible vibrations coming through steering wheel when breaking was told it was the tyres, wanted some new wheels so had them fitted with new tyres balanced etc.

Still had vibration so changes the discs and pads.

Still got vibrations coming from steering wheel he's at his wits end !!

Any ideas ??

Control arm ball joints. That's what fixed a similar issue on my 6 series.

Per above I’d say with a degree of confidence it’s going to be suspension related.

Control arm bushings the likely culprit. On older generations (E46’s), in my experience anyway, it was almost as cost effective to replace the entire arm (came with bushings already pressed in).

Reread your post again and since you mention issue arises when braking, would defo call out front control arm rear bush, again on the older cars it was referred to as the ‘brake reaction bush’!

If it's breaking (apart), I'm not surprised there are vibrations. hehe

I had similar when the steering rack bushes went on my e36. Could be many things, get a good garage to diagnose.
