Made it into print today!

Very chuffed today as my photos have made it into print for the first time. Page 59 of this months Custom Car (55 Chevy on the front) Street Eliminator report from Bug Jam

New Custom Car out today, and I've got 22 pictures in there

How do you get them to print them in a mag?

do you just send them in (email) and hope they like/use them?
do you get anything in return?
did you have to send in a text/story as well as the pics.

I emailed the editor of a number of magazines that cover the cars that I normally photograph with some links to pics that I had. I was lucky that Kev Elliot at CC liked the pics and needed some of a show I had covered as they didn't have any photos of it. Once he had used some and the door was open I sent him a disc of some other shows, some of these are in this month and some will be in next month.

I hadn't considered the copy to go with the pics but Kev asked me if I would do a small write up and captions for all the pics which I have done. I now carry a notebook in my camera bag for taking down oweners names and car specs when I take the pics as it saves time later one. Yes I do get paid for them too, money I will reinvest in some better glassware
