The home PC literally blew itself last week end, and I've spent all week gettting it back up and running again (Win XP Pro, Office 2003, etc, etc).

Anyhow - fortunately I have an up-to-date physical copy of all the data off the machine.

So I rebuild it, re-install it everything, and then I come to Outlook.

I copied the mail data files into the correct directory, in the hope that Outlook would recognise them and basically continue where we left off. But no.

The bottom line ..... I now have outlook running perfectly well, but with a new mailfile.

Does anyone know how I can get my mail from my old file into the new one? I spent ages last night trying everything I could think of - but to no avail - hence this posting.

I'd be grateful for any ideas.

I've also searched the web - and not found anything of use or help.

Many thanks in advance,

K

Outlook or Outlook Express? The procedure is different.

Sorry - should have clarified - It's Outlook 2003 (the real version) - not express - the cut-down version.

Just find your old .PST file and use File > import/export and import it into the new one.

You can also use tools > options > data files and find it that way. I might be off a little off on the menu commands as I haven't got 2K3 in front of me, but you should be able to figure out what I'm blathering on about

Thanks BliarOut, I'll try that tonight, but I have to confess I'm pretty sure I did that last night.

Unfortunately the machine is at home - so can't try it until then - but I did try the File Open, Import, etc, etc, and it was not having it at al.

But I'll give it another go in case I was doing something daft.

Thanks again,

K

Check the size of the PST. And if it's on a CD, copy it off and make sure it's not flagged read only!

Chances are Outlook helpfully overwrote it for you so you'll need to import again.

Mark, you need to do:

File, Import and Export, Import from another program or file, select "Personal folder file (pst), select your PST file, then "Do not import duplicates"

Thats from OL2003.

COOL ..... looks like the solution is there somewhere.

I'll try the above tonight.

The file is stored on a 20gig USB drive, so read/write access is not a problem .....

... I hope.

Many thanks again. Will update tonight.
