I am in need of some help.

I am planning a Kit Car project of about 10 cars in total, but I will start with 1 to see if I can get it to work.

Here in South Africa we don’t have that many enthusiasts, and I have not found any body that can help me up to date.

Here are my problems:

1 I am in need of Suzuki Hayabusa engines, 1 to start with, and then hopefully a lot more will be needed.

2 The engines will be transversally mounted over the rear axle, so it would be a mid engine car.

3 The car must have a reverse gear, or electric reverse motor.

4 The car will need a differential with CV style side shafts to transfer the power to the wheels (No chains and Sporckets)

I see that Fisher Sports Cars UK have a model called the “Menace” that uses the same setup, so if any one knows if they have a bolt-on conversion or similar, please let me know.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you.

I think Quaife do a differential with built in reverse for the mid/transverse bike engine installations. Mind you being Quaife it probably isn't cheap.

Quaiffe certainly do one but, as Twin40s says, it is far from cheap.

It was developed in conjunction with Radical's drivetrain division, Powertec, and as a result used to be available only via Radical. There used to be a download on the Radical website of a dimensioned engineeing drawing of the gearbox's externals, whcih might be useful if you want some definite sizes to incorporate in your design. I've just checked Radical's website and it has been updated, so I can't readily find this drawing, if it's still there, but I have a copy saved on my computer as a PDF - contact me via my profile if you are interested, and I will e-mail it to you.

General wisdom is that Suzuki will not sell 'pallet' Hyabusa engines (though I understand that Honda are quite happy to sell their engines as a complete package, if you are willing to pay new prices). You have two options, therefore:
1) If you are intending to sell the cars as 'all new', or as a premium-quality package, you will need to buy complete Hyabusa motorcyles, remove the engines, then sell the rest of the bike as spares. Plenty of people have minor crashes which damage fairings, forks or frames and original parts are exhorbitant in price, so this needn't be too scary, financially.

2) Find an engine from a crashed Hyabusa, from a motorcycle breakers.

In either case, I assume that the cost of shipping would make it more sensible to source the bikes and/or engines locally, assuming the Hyabusa is sold on your home market?

Is there a reason why you would,nt consider chain and sprockets ? it makes for 10 minute ratio changes if req'd ?
I use chain drive along with many others and its been 100% reliable both for road and race use.
Have you thought of turning the engine 90* and using the diff from a car with IRS and a short prop, seen this done too, i think the menace may be done this way if i remember right, there is a MK GT2 set up this way running a R1 engine.

Also have you thought about a ZX12 engine ? 1/2 the price of the Busa same power.
