£10k EV - Page 1 - Car Buying

Howdy

I'm looking for a daily, and an EV suits my use case. I never do long journeys, and work is ~5 miles away. I can charge at home - Even a 3pin plug would be fine.
Wife and I will be sharing the car between us, and she has an automatic licence so can't use my current car (Civic), so looking for a runaround we can share.

Doesn't need to be especially fast or fun, but I'd rather something that wasn't tiny so we can still chuck our dogs in the back. The Civic is an ideal size really, but I can accept that the EVs we'd be looking at might be a bit smaller.

In such a situation, what would you go for? I know little about EVs other than liking the look of BMW i3's, and not being keen on the Leaf biggrin

I didn't want to post this on the main EV thread because I'll inevitably be called a murderer paedophile terrorist for wanting an EV.

I too am looking for a runaround EV and there are some very nice loooking next gen Leafs for £8/9k

I'm biased but If you're interested in the i3 then see about getting a test drive in one. They are a step above the likes of the Leaf and Zoe in terms of design and driving experience.

A Leak mk 2 from 2020 is in budget with the 40kWh (circa 120 miles plus) battery

Also e-Golf (38kWh) and Kia Soul (30kWh) are in budget and a reasonable size.

Corsa, 208, or Fiat 500 42kwh. I really like the 500, fun little go kart.

If you don't like the Leaf then fair enough, but they're a decent size and you'll get £5k change from £10k if you buy the pre-facelift version.

As I've posted on a similar thread, for short trips these things are an absolute steal.

A 30kWh aren't the best in the Leaf for degradation or even the occasional rapid charge.

Thanks for the responses all - more choice than I thought!

My favourites are the Ioniq, ZS and the MG5 - Though the 5 was immediately shot down by my wife as we'll be sharing the car.
Why do women hate estates hehe

I say wife, but the wedding is next week, so I still have time to change.

The Ioniq is a good shout. Had a hybrid one a while ago, it's a good practical car and nice and comfy. The EV version doesn't have a massive battery but is very efficient, so it still manages a reasonable range, and will also cost next to nothing to run.

You might also find some of the smaller battery versions of the Niro or Kona. They have depreciated quite hard as everyone wants the 64kWh cars rather than the 38kWh, which means the 38 is usually a bit of a bargain.

It's currently on 11 out of 12 but occasionally seems to show 10 out of 12. As long as the thing will continue to do a 40 mile round trip on cold days it will suit our needs just fine.

Tbh the 5 is quite poor as an Estate, and you do sit quite high.
