Not being reported here but there's a pretty intense heatwave in Cyprus at the moment.

Have colleagues and mates there. Spoke to them today. Government has banned all outdoor working between 12pm and 4pm. Official figures are putting peak daytime temps at around 45 degrees. Our office in Nicosia is recording 51 degrees!!!!

Was there two weeks ago and you could feel it building then.

If you're heading there - be careful!

Blimey.

And here we are in the U.K., middle of June, and lucky if the temperature stays in double figures overnight. Not likely tonight either. Highs of about 15C tomorrow in the SW have been forecast.

45C is too hot for much though other than staying in a pool or enjoying air-con.

at 45 degrees plus it is genuinely unpleasant outside.
Way worse than anything we have here.

I made the mistake of trying to walk a few hundred yards at the temperature in Doha once.
Absolutely grim.

I was joking, although I have experienced the high 40s. I can Imagine the Cypriot mountains look very enticing for any locals who have that option.

Went to Cyprus on a lad’s holiday 15 years ago and distinctly recall that feeling of walking into a furnace upon exiting the plane, never known heat quite like it and I’m a complete sun worshipper - 46 degrees it hit!

It seems like a pretty regular occurrence here?

I remember 47 degrees in the dessert in Dubai - was happy to spend most of the day reading in the shade, with regular visits to the pool.
47 degrees in Oman was very different because of the humidity - we spent as much time in the room as we did out by the pool!

How hot did it get here in that heatwave, was it last year, year before?

It drove me indoors anyway, and I love the sun. Forty degrees was it?
40.3 degrees at Gringley on the Hill which was about 2 miles from where we were at the time.

It did feel a tad warm.

We're off to Paphos in August, hopefully it'll have come down a little by then.

Aren’t Greece also suffering at the moment?

Anything above 25c and I’m a fat sweaty mess with no energy, 40+ is too unpleasant to think about. eek

Just started peeing down here in London. Guess it'll be the car for the commute again. Bought my motorbike last Oct with the idea of loads of trips come Spring.

Seems to have constantly rained, been pretty windy and cool enough to warrant the electric blanket at night.

It's June FFS!

I quite enjoyed that 40c day in London 2 years ago. I was the only one out walking in the park smile

It's been around 42C, in the shade, on our roof terrace this week.
We had the same temperatures a couple of weeks ago however, as per the forecast, the temperature dropped and we had a thunderstorm, since then the temperature has risen.
We live about 25km from the coast, we went into Limassol, yesterday, for shopping, unusually it was 6 degrees cooler on the coast.
To add to the fun, our village will be without mains water for three days, from Monday, (maintenance on the holding tank apparently), which is nice.
Nicosia is always hotter than anywhere else, I dread to think what it's like there.
When the temperature dropped last week, for a couple of days, it was amazing how cool 35C felt!

Turkey last July/August, the hottest day for us was 47, it generally never dropped below 45, funnily enough we coped ok, it was a dry heat and we were on the coast so it was breezy.

In Crete it hit 41 and has been 38/39 for days either side. 30 at 10pm!
Returning now to a comfortable 30ish

Horrendous, by all accounts!

I was there two weeks ago and felt it starting to build. Was sat outside a bar (Walls Inn Brew Pub on the north side - highly recommended wink ) and went from being a lovely balmy evening to this oppressive humid wave of head that kind of just descended on the city. Very odd.

Our team have just moved into an office near the Ledra Palace crossing and had to have the window graphics (wot I designed) installed in the middle of the night otherwise they wouldn't have stuck!

....which is somewhat ironic given the project's area of focus!

Normally we get a nice cooling breeze at around 4pm, it's not happening at the moment.
I believe temperatures are set to drop next week.

Have they really "banned" working outdoors?!

Last summer here it was over 40 for weeks, getting as high as 45 in the suburbs... our busiest time of year (of course), no chance of me not working!

I've been here 18 years and yes the government do issue these measures.
Also most trades shut down for two weeks in August for the same reasons.

I remember Cyprus around 2003 and hiring a Suzuki SJ without a roof. It was around 40 and the wind was like a fan heater.

I like heat, beats the UK and the occasional lottery of the Canaries.

We got back on Thursday after a week I. Paphos, was brutally hot, I'm not a hot weather person hence going now rather August but even the locals were complaining about the heat. I stayed inside so much people have questioned if I had actually been away
