Booing national anthems

Honestly what a bunch of babies booing each other's anthems. But then again having seen some of the fighting going on it would seem most are short of a brain cell.....
It is quite shocking how 40 000 England fans come to town and they cant be trusted with the patio furniture again. Scotland had 200 000 in Munich and the one and only arrest I have heard of in the news was a Scottish Indepence supporter.

Not specifically National Anthems but booing in F1 does seem to be more prevalent than it used to be. It is the Verstappen /Hamilton rivalry which has resulted in booing from fans on both sides.
The sport has seen much bigger rivalries that Max/Lewis, it's the new "fans" from drive to survive that have caused it. Scrump said:

What sort of person has enough emotion invested in some people racing a car around a track that they could work themselves into a mindset that booing a song is the best way to express themselves? konark said:
The booing of the anthems is a long-established tradition at international football matches and one that England fans uphold particularly fervently. it's not bloody opera you know!
explains the mentality & intelligence levels of a high percentage of football supporters very well.gazza285 said:
I have no issue with the booing of our anthem, it is musically droll, and I do not agree with the sentiment either.
Good point. We perhaps need a national anthem that invokes pride in the country rather than wishes for God's protection and the longevity of the current monarch.
Many may not support the monarchy and/or be agnostic but have to join in with both sentiments if they want to show national pride.

I think that for football matches shown across the globe it presents a really bad image of what the UK is like. Quite embarrassing really.jdw100 said:

Over the years I've always had drivers or teams I've "supported", and a few I've been less keen on. But I'm happy to acknowledge the talent and skills (eg. Schumacher, or RB/Verstappen).
The problem is that we have such a dreadful national anthem in the UK.
'God Save The King' is not a national anthem, it is a song of praise for an individual - the monarch. And it is dreadful. For some unfathomable reason, the English also use that dirge as their anthem.
At least the Welsh, Scots and Irish use a different song. What about a campaign to have a proper song that we can all be proud of - perhaps 'Land of Hope and Glory', or 'Jerusalem', say? They are decent songs.
Shall we start a campaign?
