There a 911 going very close to me. It's been on ebay before (about a month ago) I think it may not have reached it's reserve last time, but I'm not sure as I didn't follow it.

The seller lives in Hong Kong but the car is in Rochdale.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4575824461&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

I did send an email to the guy selling it last time it was listed (regarding poss part/ex) and received a reply in good english (not Nigerian).

There is one passage in the ad that worries me
"...payment will only be accepted by way of bank telegraphic transfer prior to collection"

Opinions please?

(Oh, and apologies to the seller if this item is totally genuine - I have no intentions of casting aspersions - merely cautious.)

Bob.

I think that sounds ok. Far better than cash and if you paid by cheque you would hardly expect to drive it away there and then.

True.
Besides I don't see the point it a deposit when I live round the corner and the full amount has to be wired anyway before the vehicle is released.

I've sent an email enquiring about a viewing. That way I'll find out who his mechanic is and through my mechanic find out if he's cosher.

As for walking away - I'll tread carefully, but I am on a budget so I don't have a whole world of Porsches to choose from.

Fortune favours the brave as they say.

End of the day can you afford to take a chance, I have been looking for nearly two years. No rush for me it has the be the right car for the right reasons. A good paint job can hide many sins in a car.

Hmm, with a bit of enhancement on Photoshop I get this...

Which I read as TDK 582S.

And comes up as...
Vehicle make RELIANT
Model SCIMITAR/SABRE

Not foolproof evidence of anything I'll grant you but a little worrying none the less (buy a Porsche and get a Reliant!).
If the guy replies to my email I'll get him to confirm the Reg No.

Footnote: I understand where you're coming from See Ya, but ultimately there's nothing on a car that cannot be fixed. Bodywork issues I may well walk away from. Other (more easily repairable) faults may help you bag a bargain.

I certainly wouldn't expect perfection on any car of this age.

Goodluck, then on my part cannot afford to make a mistake as the wife would cut my blank blank off HA !!!

My own search goes on for my dream car 911/930 turbo black 87-89 had four PPI's done all came back very poor. Better to lose a few hundred pounds than thousands.

Let us all know how it goes.

Cheers - I'd definately be getting a PPI done too.

Although I may not waste my money on a Reliant 911!

TDK 682S

comes back with a strange reply also. but closer to the car than TDK 582S

Manufacturer
Model
Body type SALOON
Colour BLUE
Fuel type PETROL
Date manufactured 31 December 1978
Number of previous owners 0
Last owner change 27 November 1998

still it is odd that the manufacturer and model are completly missing?

actually, just did a search on that RAC website for my motorbike, girlfriends landrover and my 911, it dont know the motorbike at all(Ive owned it since new for 2 yrs) and it says the fuel type on the 911 is diesel.. .. .. .. .. it says the landrover is the HSE air suspension version though, which is correct.

Perhaps a little better than we first suspected then.

I didn't try that reg on the RAC site after the AA came up with a blank.

I suppose the last (and first) owner date tallies with when the car was originally imported from Hong Kong.

Given what they say about your vehicles Gary, That description is fairly accurate!

Top sleuthing!

Maybe we should form some kind of Porsche Investigation Bureau.

On the DVLA site:
www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp/
then click on Vehicle Enquire

both TDK 682S and TDK 582S cannot be found...might not mean anything, but I can find all my previous cars.
