I have just put my car on here for sale, private seller, and theres been a lot of interest via email, which is great however nearly all of them are demanding, yes, demanding that i get them a Vin Report or Reg Report. In 40 years of buying and selling my own private cars, i have never heard of this before. I have always done my due diligence before buying a car and even paid for my own HPI report to check on any outstanding finance. Is this a new thing creeping into buying and selling cars. Its something i dont like as these fkers are demanding it, of course i have asked them to show me a link from the consumer acts where i have to supply anything like any reports and i get no response and no link.

Come on people do you own due dilignce, get out there and find the information yourselves, its really not too difficult.

Because you will pay for a phony "buyers report" - and the buyer will disappear

The scam is for the report fee

Or rather you won't pay - because you won't fall for it ;-)

FFS when does it end, ive had two more people interested in my car for sale and theyre both insisting that i supply them with these reports. It seems everyone is jumping on the Phishing bandwagon, dont these idiots have a decent job, obviously not, must be easier ways of making legal money. Then when i mention Scam or Phishing theyre up in arms saying i cant say that, oh yes i facking can, cos you are.

Easy. The second word is "...off".

The only people a seller needs to pay attention to are the ones who turn up to look at the car. It's as simple as that.

Thats what i like and will only go along with these type of people, its the chaff that i have to weed out at the initial contact stage.

As much as it is a scam, if YOU are buying a car and want a HPI/CarVertical/Whatever report then YOU pay for it, not the seller.

Just to keep you all informed, the email adresses below are Phishers and scmmers asking for the VIN Report to be sent to them before they evn see the car:

saeinhinda393@gmail.com gave me this link to get the information, please dont click on it. http://audityourvehicle.com/

de4330289@gmail.com gave me this link to get the information, please dont click on it. https://vinrecodes.com/public/ukvin

waynefilson79@gmail.com gave me this link to get the information, please dont click on it. http://vehiclesreports.com/

jamesstaleyyy@gmail.com gave me this link to get the information, please dont click on it http://vehiclesreports.com/

Please dont click on any of the links above, they are there to pre-warn you if you get any contact from them, they are pishing foryour card details. Sellers should never have to supply any VIN reports, its down to the buyer to do his own due diligence, always.

Timely thread, my sister in law has listed my father in law's T5.1 Campervan and she's had a few enquiries of this nature with the last asking for the "VCP report" followed by links to ProVin based websites. I think it's the start of things to come sadly as the whole VW van scene seems saturated with scams on various levels...

Theres too many idiots sat at home on benefits and too lazy to get of their asses and work legally and can only think of ripping off others, sadly.

It wouldn't be much use to potential buyers anyway!

When I've had HPI reports for cars I have bought the provider gives a guarantee so you have some comeback against them if it turns out to be wrong, but you only get that if you bought the report.
