I have had my Griff 500 for 5 years now and it has been and still is a fantastic car but now I fancy a change, I love TVRs and want to buy a new one but the TVR speed six just does not do it for me so where do I go. I want to stay with TVR but I also want a V8 so it looks like I might have to buy a secondhand V8 Cerb. So PLEASE Mr Smolenkski stick a V8 in a T350 and then I can buy a new one off you.

And if you need a test driver for it or some more input feel free to drop me a line.

TVR till I die.

I've heard rumours (don't we all? ) that there will be another V8 in the near future.

I hope so! I would like to upgrade to a Tamora next year, but the S6 sound just doesn't do it for me like the V8 does.

At the Bishop's Stortford car show this weekend, I started looking around for alternatives. Ferrari 348 looked tempting, until I sat in it - just didn't fit.

I also spent a large amount of time on the AM stand - maybe I'm getting older, but without a TVR V8 on offer(and with a fair bit more cash) I am severely tempted with the new V8 Vantage. (No slating please - I'm sorry but it was pretty tasty)

Personally I would say the use of a crated V8 in a future model is an absolute dead cert...

Nothing personal Kieran, but comment like this and I really appreciate the variety of users who use this forum.

Finally scraping enough pennies together to recently get my first Griff, was a brilliant feeling....being able to blow 80K on a new motor must be something else.

Fair play to ya

Completely agree, for me 8 is great.

Hmmm a crated yank V8... doesn't float my boat, too much drag car/yank tank symbolism. Not that I'd turn one down in the right car any one got an Shelby Cobra going begging?.
I reckon that TVR are going in the right direction with thier own engine builds despite all the reported problems.
I also think the straight 6 is a classic british sports car engine configuration and is more in keeping with the car than a yank v8.

Now thats just got my brain spinning if TVR could bolt two S6s together to build a narrow angle V12 that would be something.

Iain wasn't the speed 12 engine essentially 2 speed6 engines bolted together on a common crankcase?

an engine i'd like to see in a future TVR (please don't flame me on this) is the new Audi RS4 engine, it's kind of in the mould of an AJP, 8000rpm limit 414bhp standard and quite lightweight and sounds monstorous in the LMES pace cars!!!

Sorry 'bout that - didn't think how it would sound - actually at the moment I couldn't afford an AM badge (and I'm still paying off a loan for the Chimaera so I know how you feel!) But plans are afoot, and next year it MIGHT be possible (and they're only £80k NEW - hopefully someone else can wear a year's depreciation for me).

Think more fantasy garage then! I spoke to a T350 owner who'd had loud pipes to try and rekindle the old V8 feeling, but it just means ear plugs on the motorway. Our RO said much the same about their Saggy - the Cerb turned heads, no-one takes a bit of notice now

It has to be said - most manufacturers had cars represented at the show. The aforementioned were the only temptations away from the fold - surely a testament to TVR? I love TVRs and don't want to leave, but I just don't know if I can do without a V8...

Interesting thread.

Does this need to be an either/or decision? Could they market the Speed 6 as the 'track day' version, and the V8 as the everyday (in the Griff/Chim style) TVR?

I don't understand the vagaries of design and engineering so am sure I will be shot down, but one look on this web site would tell you there is a healthy mix of V8 and S6 fans, so why not offer both?

I've also been thinking for a bit that two lines of TVR's would be good. The more radical type of car (e.g. Sagaris) with Speed6 engine and V8 power for the more traditional models.

A twist though, as wouldn't US V8 engined car be cheaper to produce than SP6 engined cars? Hence they could offer more performance for the ££ than the SP6 engined cars? Which would all be a bit topsy turvy?

Someone told me last week that the old V8 units were c £4k to buy in. I wouldnt know how that compared to a self build, but it didnt seem like bad value for money

Good point LA - I suppose TVR would have accomplished little up to this point if they had listened to sensible advice from anyone !!!

PH is probably a very representative cross section of the existing and potential mark for new TVR's. I read on here almost daily people requesting a 'new' V8 TVR (for nostalga reasons? or reliability ? I'm not sure the reason is relevant).

It would be fascinating to see the reaction if they actually went and did it. Are we all full of hot air, or would you see a flood of orders from the like of Uncle Bulgaria ??

Who can tell

With regard to the Speed 12 engine being two Speed 6s? That could well be the case though I dont think they sanitised that for road use from what I've seen on the speed 12 write ups ? I'd have thought such an engne would be capable of the hp neccessary to compete with the V12 ferraris or whatever. It also seem about the right time for an updated Cerbera to offer a British alternative to the likes of the V12 2+2 ferraris and potential Porsche Panama (or whatever its called). I think when offering alternatives to those cars a crated yank motor just doens't offer enough kudos or class that a home grown motor does.

Did they not suggest when the stopped the production of the Cerb that a new 2+2 was on the way?

The next car in the production line is going to be fascinating as it will really show the direction of NS. V8, S6, 2+2 ??

What would sell better?

Whatever it is will be a good indication of what we can expect for the next few years from TVR.

The Speed 12 was indeed two Speed 6's with a new crank and crank casing. It's aledged it broke the shaft on the companies 1000 bhp dynometer so they never quote a horsepower figure " Adequate Sir" ?
