Oil lines for turbos on 993tt and 996tt - one way valve kit?
Discussion
Okay, i know Porsche did this one way oil line valve for the turbo sumps on the 996tt, so that the sump didn't overflow and leak oil into the compressor after engine shutdown.
I also know there are kits available to convert the 993 oil lines to a similar system - anyone know who does them, how much, etc?
Thanks in advance for any information anyone can provide. The only lead i have so far is FVD in Germany.

I considered this but didn't bother in the end. I think that the Andial lines simply have a different bend to reduce the chance of oil draining back. Apparently the 996tt one-way valves can be fitted but the lines need to be modified. I'd be interested if there's a nice easy solution.
Seems that RS Tuning and Cargraphic do these kits too, but the FVD kit is the least expensive at 410euros (i think plus VAT and delivery).
As has been said, the Andial kit is just a bent line, so will non alleviate the smoke-on-startup if you run the oil level close the the maximum on the dipstick and/or guage.
As i am about to change the exhausts, now would seem to be the ideal time to do the turbo oil lines also.

The word with these valves is dont fit them, all the racers do not.As there have been problems with the one way valves.Rs tuning i dont think, fits them on there race cars, and i know of at least 4 rs tuning engines with none fitted.
Just drain the turbo sump every know and then.If the dry sump tank is slightly overfull,it will drain back quicker aslo.

However, none of the racers phone me up day and night to complain about the smoke filling their garages on start up.......
I'll check out the 996 turbo parts list first.

RS Tuning sold me the kit to fit to my engine (built by them) it was expensive at around £900 for the parts, but fancy valves and heat shielding and I understand is newly developed - As Colin says, its not funny when your car is leaving a smoke screen on start up. There doesn't seem to be any pattern to why these engines suddenly suffer from this problem, my engine came back from RS with new turbos and was fine for 3K miles then after an oil and filter change - smoke screen every morning. New, checked out filter and more new oil - still smoke screen
1 expensive valve kit later - cured
Got a response from TurboKraft in the US, they do the 996tt valves plus modified oil lines for the 993tt in a kit, at $350/car plus postage.
They'll do a small discount for 5 or more pieces plus of course the postage is reduced.
If anyone fancies a group buy drop me an e-mail, estimate max £200 per kit all in.

For those that have asked, it's a relatively straight forward thing to replace once you have taken the rear wheels off and the silencers - so an ideal opportunity to put a sports exhaust on at the same time
Realistically shouldn't be more than three hours, i will do a write up like i did with the dump valves and HIDs when i've done mine. I'm expecting it to take 2 hours.

I'd be interested if fitting the kit solved a problem, but as far as I know I don't have a problem to solve!
If I understand the above correctly, the non-return valve prevents the head of oil in the oil lines from causing gradual leakage through the turbo bearings into the exhaust system? So if this is occurring you get smoke at start-up, hence if you don't get smoke at start-up this kit is not necessary for your car?
If my car does not suffer from the syndrome above, is there any other benefit from fitting this kit?
Thanks

Well, my car suffers this from time to time and there doesn't seem to be any other reason why.
It's definitely worse when the oil level is higher, but other than that i can't spot a pattern.
Once or twice a week - bearing in mind my car is started usually 3/4/5 times a day - i get a puff of smoke on startup. Sometimes if the last journey was short, sometimes not. Sometimes if the last journey was particularly hot, sometimes not.
But if you've never had the smoke-on-startup at all, or if you have but it doesn't bother you, then i wouldn't worry about it.

i hesitate to start this ...............i ve got these valves , on a rebuilt GT2 engine with kk24 s .....filled a Eurostar carriage on start up on journey home from rebuild .................with valves PERFECT .....valves fitted by Steve of Jaz Motorsport........he can do it so ring and ask him if u want to know more .
The engine was rebiult by a well known race engineer who did nt mind filling paddocks round Europe with smoke ...............with the car as it was , i am not sensitive to what people see , but it was ridiculous ............its primarily a road /track day car and beyond crazy without the valves ............
