968 v 944 S2 pros and cons?

I think the time has come to replace my 2.7 944.
Given that I use the car most days and it is not a weekend plaything is a 968 worth the extra money over a good S2.
Up to a point performance is not an issue as I use it as GT car not for trackdays (the seven is much better for that!)so I would consider a tiptronic 968.
What do you think?

difficult one, this. I did the same, moving from a 2.7 to a 968 after much vacillating.
there are plenty of threads on this subject - try the search function on this forum.
i chose a 968 in the end because I liked the styling better, it seemed a more modern car, i liked the 6 speed close ratio box and the performance was a tad better than the S2 I was also playing with. was it worth twice the price? to me, yes, objectively probably not. in the 12m since I looked, 968s have fallen in value proportiionally more than 944s, so a 968 may be a more tempting prospect.
unless you are a city driver, I wouild think very carefully before commiting to a tip. i found the tip very frustrating and the 0-60 acceleration is no better than your current 2.7. i think the tip is 7.5 vs just over 6secs for the manual coupe.

We've had this question several times before, so you might like to do a search for other threads on the subject. To save you some time tho, I'll summarise the sort of responses you'll get:
The S2 boys will tell you that a 968 is overpriced and is no better than an S2, which can be had for half the price. The 968 lads will say that the many small improvements make the 968 a better car, and it's rarity and better looks make the extra money worth spending. Then the turbo drivers won't be able to resist chipping in and trying to convince you that the only 944s worth buying have wastegates (and they just happen to be selling their mint example for more than the price of a 968)
The truth is (as you might expect) somewhere in between. An S2 is certainly cheaper but you will struggle to find one for half the price in the same condition and spec - remember most are several years older. Many (as I did) buy a 968 in Club Sport or Sport guise because of the more focussed handling, which is not widely available for an S2 without modification. A turbo (250 anyway) is quicker in a straight line but not so easy to drive off boost and in the wet. At the end of the day they are all great cars, with different strengths and weaknesses. You need to try them and see if they tick the right boxes for you before making a decision. I owned an S2 for seven years and now have a 968 Sport. The S2 was a brilliant car, but I certainly don't regret buying the 968 because it is a more focussed drive, looks much more modern (IMO) and is in a lot better condition than the S2.
