Hi guys. Recently bought a BMW 5 series touring and after getting it home noticed a few problems. They have rectified all but one. On the bonnet where they have "fixed" stone chips, there are splodges of "lacquer" that just look like blobs of glue (looks 5hit3) the sales man reckons that's how they fix stone chips. Sounds a load of BS to me. Has anyone had this issue? Tia.

I’ve my oxide grey G20 m340i booked in for a stone chip repair next month. Two days, 600 quid and feathered across three panels to do it properly.

Odds are your dealer isn’t going to that effort!

They’ve probably gone round it with a touch up pen. That’s the standard for car prep in the second hand car dealership business.

They definitely aren't. I wouldn't mind but it's a BMW main dealer! We will see what they have to say today!

Unless it’s a new car, this is all you get, it’s just wear and tear.

I can't say I've ever seen a dealer do a bodyshop repair for stone chips on used cars. It would just add too much to the cost of prep.

Given a car is very likely to get a chip or two every 10k miles, it's never bothered me too much. You might get one driving a brand new car home from its collection. Just one of those things.

I wouldn't have minded if the stone chips were left. The way they have left the "lacquer" is shocking! I could have touched it up better myself with a pen!

This is why now I don't demand they do any kind of bodywork/wheel repairs etc unless its really bad and needs proper paint.

Id rather have a slight scuff on a wheel or a few chips than some bodge job done by the salesman with the wrong colour pen half an hour before I collect.

Bought a Golf years ago where the wheels had the start of diamond cut white worm and 1 wheel had the slightest kerb mark. Dealer offered to see what they could do but I knew they would just flat them off and get them sprayed by a man in a van which would look terrible after a few months. The white worm eventually looked terrible 3 years later by which point I just got them sandblasted and powdercoated.
