Hi Guys,

I need to set off my SB800 remotely but WITHOUT actually firing the D70's onboard flash - i'm told this can be done, but I cannot find my instruction booklet!

Any ideas?

You need to put the camera into command mode and then sync them. I played around with this and found that both flashes fire but I struggled to get them to flash at the same time.

I never persivered for long but decided that the long cord thing would be best.

The built-in Speedlight fires to trigger the SB800 but does not contribute to the exposure. So if you're worried about light from that source, don't be. However an SB800 without a manual is very limited, so do download it. Also scour your D70 manual because this will, eventually, tell you how to do it.

Ah, ive got it to fire with the onboard speedlight triggering it, but assumed it contributed. Are you sure it doesnt?

I have the manual for the SB800, it's the D70 one i can't find. Ill have a look for it.

Thanks guys.

Why not download the PDF from the link I posted? Get it printed A4 size and bound. Makes it a darn sight easier to read than the tiny one that come with the D70. I had the D100 done also.
