Can anyone tell me which company provides the breakdown cover as standard on new TVR's.

Also if the worst should happen, do I have a choice as to which TVR dealership it goes to? I would certainly only want it to go to Peninsula or possibly Racing Green if I broke down in the South/South West.

My Tamora (June 2005) came with limited cover through RAC. Unfortunately this doesn't cover the car when it's at home (everytime I've need assistance my car has been at home) so I've kept my AA cover which is fully comprehensive.

WRONG

TVR Assist does cover you at home
It also will take your car to a TVR dealer of your choice
It will also provide a hire car for upto 48 hours.
Overnight accommodation.

I have personally got them out to the house and they have then recovered my car from my home to my dealer (which was not the closest one)

I'm most certainly NOT wrong!

I know from recent first hand experience that they will NOT come to your home and they never offered to take my car to the nearest dealer. Probably because it's over 70 miles to get there. I should have read the small print before phoning them I luckily still have my AA cover and they came to the rescue no questions asked!

Maybe they give differnet levels of cover depending on the car? All I know is that your experience is very different from mine. I for one will never deal with RAC again.

Isn't it simply the case that the new cover (same time as the new warranties came in?) is from 'Assist' whereas people got RAC type cover in the past?

Other way round Ted?

Dave says he's with Assist and bought in April
Ludinoir's with RAC and bought in June

Breakdown cover in general might be a good topic for another thread. I've had absolutely fantastic service from my breakdown people (once at home, once in France), but a friend who pays double my premium was subjected to an appalling course of events.

Ooops- quick delete; nearly broached the name and shame rule there...

Well I might be able to tell you what I have tomorrow. If the cheque arrives from the Leasing company I can go and collect tomorrow.

unfortunately having to use my breakdown cover 4 times in the last year, have never had any of your mentioned issues..

all times they have never complaind about taking the car to the garage of my choice - Fernies and not the closest TVR dealer (and once I was 250+ miles away)

Although only difference is mine comes with my insurance - Direct Line.. so not only the cheapest insurance by a mile but great breakdown coverage too (£100 for all singing all dancing cover)

so you shouldnt just go with AA or RAC as habit.. alternatives are often much better

My Tamora (delivered July 2005) came with TVR Assist by RAC. I've just read through the booklet again and it does say that 'At Home' is included.

My question is why would the RAC not come to my home then when I contacted them regarding a flat battery (The AA arrived within 15 minutes of phoning them - no questions asked)? This is another question I'll ad to my list to ask TVR Engineering.

To be honest the reason I use the AA is the RAC has proven unreliable in the past before I received the cover with my new Tamora. I hope others don't have the same issues with the RAC I've had.

Yes My paperwork says it has At home cover to. I think you should complain to TVR about that. Flat Batteries must be one of the most common occurances on any car so I can't understand why they would discriminate.

break down cover is one thing you must have on any tvr.

I don't think the thread I posted was about the usefulness of breakdown cover. However if we are now discussing it's usefulness then yes you are quite correct. I have found it to be very useful safeguard. However in all the yearsof car ownership I have only had to use it once and that was on a certain German Sports Car that had to go on a transporter 3 times in 4 months.
