The Yugo 45 Has Fibre Optics AMG Bird Bath

When I had my Citroen garage, I used to fix many of the other cars in the neighbourhood. A few houses down was a mint Yugo 45.
The choke cable had snapped, so I fit one from a Citroen ZX. As it was illuminated - the button lit up to show when it was pulled out - I thought it'd be cool to wire it up to please my 'neighbour' as the original wasn't illuminated.
I remember thinking as I snipped it: 'It'd be funny if this 'wire' I planned to tap into was actually a fibre optic cable for the dashboard lights: like an XJS V12'
Yup, it was. A Yugo 45 had a single 12v lamp to light up the speedo, etc and a fibre optic cable going to each area.
Fortunately, it was easy to undo my cockup. Any other examples of Space Age tech on budget dross?
Actually, they weren't as bad as the media portrayed. A Fiat for £3,100 in 1988 was a bargin'.
I was at the MOT garage yesterday. They are really clued-up and we often chat about diagnostics as I too am a geek. Unfortunately, a decade++ out of date geek...
They seem to be collecting clapped-out German exotica atm.
A Merc AMG V8 has sat idle for years. As it started to rain, I spotted the most crazy styling feature ever: the bonnet has two large rectangular wells for 'style'. As the front of the wells has a 'dam' the rapidly formed two bird baths. And a bird used one for just that...
Imagine splashing :-) out on a £150k car and watch this happen.
AMG must have seen the bonnet mouldings fill with water??
I am unsure of the exact model?

Back in '96 I had visited an uncle in the US who was driving a Cadillac of some kind. I noticed some weird bumps on the front wings, and something similar above the rear windscreen on the headliner, some of which lit up. Turns out they were a form of bulb-outage monitoring: fibre optics from each "indicator" to each bulb, which showed the driver if the bulb worked or not.
