My home office HP printer has become rubbish, I intend to replace it with one of these unless anyone here can recommend anything better.

TIA for any useful input.

Several posters have Brother printers & seem happy with them - the big advantage being that third party toner cartridges are available which are much more economic that OEM ones.

I don't know if Brother have recently released a new range but have a look here as there are some models I don't recall seeing before, such as the MFC-J4540DWXL with 6000 page toner included:

The MFC-L3740CDW is even £10 cheaper than from Amazon.

Unless there’s a real need for a laser I’ve been getting along fine with this
I’ve printed 10,500 pages since October

Might be worth waiting for Amazon Prime day to see if there are any deals. I’m also looking for a home printer and have picked up decent deals in the past on printers.

I personally went laser because i dont print very much.

I got tired of clogged up ink jets because of only sporadic use.

I've a little mono laser now that gets fired up occasionally to print a few pages then gets turned off again.

If i needed colour i'd definitely go colour laser.

I don’t print a lot and I need a sharp image for letterheads.

If you don’t need colour a Brother laser is super effective… prints quickly, cheap to buy and run.

The best thing about it though is it doesn’t need a massive software upgrade every fking time i want to use it like the HP piece of st it replaced.

We have a Brother laser and it’s been brilliant as we don’t print much at all.

As it’s WiFi it’s stuffed in the corner of the spare room and gets used maybe once a month if that.

We have only ever used genuine toners as well so don’t know how well the refills last or work.

We bought a Brother L-3550 cdw early last year after years of (HP) inkjet hell an frustration.

Its great.
It just works.
Only replaced the black toner so far.. that was £40 for a high capacity compatible replacement.

I have one of these and very happy with it. The wifi access is particularly useful and the low running cost is very much appreciated.

Brother are currently doing 100 quid cashback on this printer: https://www.printerland.co.uk/product/brother-mfc-...

Only 20 quid more than the one you are posting and the duplex scanning is worth that to me. Brother paid out the cashback in under 2 weeks from the claim, too.

My first laser printer was a Samsung, which never gave me any problems. Only replaced it because Apple no longer supported it, and third party drivers were flaky.

I've had my current Brother for about 6 years. No issues at all, and unbranded cartridges are very cheap.

I'm using a Xerox B230 (also bought from the site posted above). Was ~ GBP120. b/w only.

Has airprint which is a big plus for me printing direct from phone rather than having to fire up the laptop
I'm on the original cartridge - been printing labels for ebay sales for about 6 months, must have got through a good 300 sheets and no fading at all yet.

I also replaced an HP inkjet with a Brother laser printer - in my case the DCP-L3550CDW, different model but looks identical to that proposed by the OP. It's not been great - colour rendition is poor, with streaky bands and low saturation.. I've tried both Brother toner (very expensive) and aftermarket cartridges - in both cases, about 25% of them stopped working correctly, left blank areas or deposited splots of toner. I don't think I would buy it again. We also have a Brother inkjet in the house and that has been fine, good quality prints, no problems and no clogging. I'd maybe look at one of those rather than the laser.

I bought a second-hand Brother HL-3230CDW at the start of this year for replace my stty HP inkjet. Barely used, it was a bargain at £85 plus collection.

Not used it yet but I've bought a refill kit from here; https://www.urefilltoner.co.uk/index.html. Got to be worth a punt given the cost of cartridges.
