Any electricians able to advise?
Discussion
Friend has just moved house to a place not far from me, and called me over to look at a junction box, switch and external socket.
I'm not an electrician but I do more DIY than he does, so I had a look. To me it looks ok, except that the multi-strand 15A cable terminals (all of them) had just been twisted and folded over, so I added crimped ferrules. Everything else looks ok to my untrained eye, and the socket is working, but any comments welcome.

Could do with some sleeving over the 'earth' in the T&E.
And if you want general comment which might sound a little picky - the insulated bit on the ferrule should go over the insulation on the cable, not finish level with it. Some seem to be in all the way, some not quite there.
Ferrules on stranded cables seem to be a new thing - for electricians at least. Makes a nice job of it and avoids the loose strans that can otherwise occur.

Is it just a spur off the ring?
^ Yes, an extra socket on a spur on the ring. No upgrades to the ring wiring or circuit breaker, but shouldn't be a problem unless they use high power everywhere, like an electric hedge trimmer at the same time as a drill and kettle on the same ring.Gassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
