My daughter has just moved house, Sky have dicked about and are now saying it'll be at last two weeks before they can install broadband to the property.
What is the quickest way to get reliable broadband, the mobile signal is pretty poor there too headache

Wait for the right internet rather than rushing for the sake of 2 weeks.

If mobile coverage is poor, and fixed line is causing issues, the most obvious alternative is Starlink.

In an ideal world, it would have seamlessly been installed on the day of arrival by Sky, but here in the real world that was never going to happen. Wouldn't have been as big an issue if the phone signal was any good, but it's pretty poor on all networks.

They both work from home so to me Starlink seems like a plan, just wondering if there were any other options.

Neighbors wifi networks don't show up, the joys of two feet thick stone walls I guess!

Try am external directional aerial pointing towards the nearest mobile mast & see if it boots the signal enough.

You can hire a temporary wifi hotspot. I googled 'temporary wifi'.

Blimey! Who'd a thunk it? That might just be the winner, thanks!

They need access to the mobile phone network though? You said reception was poor.

Looks like they check the network with the best coverage at the delivery address, O2 has decent coverage there, Vodafone and EE both poor (the networks that they're with)

I’m using Three 5G in my house. Have done for about a year now and it’s far better than any fixed line service I ever had before.

+1 on Starlink. Heard good things about it from a couple of friends.

Zen have in the past been able to expedite residential installation with openreach for a fee.

Think it was ~£200 and two weeks became 2 days.

Giff Gaff Sim card, 1 month no contract, stick it in an old phone and use as a hotspot. 80 gigabytes for twenty quid. Sorted.

This and just find a local co-working office space to work from for 10 days.

I would be wary of running voice services over Starlink. Possibly okay but the latency is quite high.
Might not be the best solution.

Due to the way it works tracking the satellites, I think there are short breaks in connectivity too.

It won't compare to a proper fixed connection.

I have been using starlink for a couple of years or more and run voip over it no problem as well as vpns staying up all day most of the time. Latency is usually no issue. You get the very occasional service break for a few seconds but it is certainly not a daily occurrence.

Thanks for the info. I have a customer who uses it for his main connection without any apparent problems too.
It was more a heads-up that it might not be the best plan.
If you can't get anything else it should be fine... do you know how fast could the OP order and install a terminal?

Basic problem is the OP didn't order the connection two weeks ago smile
