Decision time... should I keep this or not? Please help

OK decision time....do I keep my 2017 Lexus LC500 or not....its top spec sport + with all extras. Done 27k miles in tip top condition.
Are these going to be sought after in years to come?....I am in UK.....

Get rid, being a Lexus it probably won't go wrong giving the impetus to sell so just move it on while the sun is shining, sort of.

What would you replace it with if you did?
There's nothing about that car that screams "keep it because one day it'll be worth loads" so it's an entirely personal thing that strangers on the internet probably can't help with.

Almost every car that might be sought after in a few years time turns out not to be. The world moves on.

Plus any ‘success stories’ in this regard never take into account the periodic maintenance, insurance, etc. poured into the thing over the years.

I think they're stunning looking cars but rather niche, also prices are still high so perhaps room to drop further before they appreciate.

What would be your reason to sell?

Well...my only gripe is the connectivity to my android phone...it works fine 99% of the time...voice control is hit and miss..the interface via the touch pad is known to be awkward but its not that bad and I have had the car 3 years......the car is stupendous.....nothing else looks like it, it sounds wonderful and its a great long distance cruiser.

First day I got it bloke in petrol station says to me "I see hundredsds of cars every day...but that is awesome and teh best Ive seen".......nuff said.

I use a Golf GTI for daily driving and about to upgrade to a Golf R.....but the LC500 is weekend specials and for summer.....what could I replace it with is the question I cant answer.........and I want to know what the trade and petrol heads think of it for the future.........

I don’t think we can answer this for you but if that’s your only reason for selling, then don’t sell it. Is there another underlying reason that you want to sell or has something else caught your eye? The only other relatively new NA V8 coupe I can think of is a Mustang.

The Lexus forums often talk about system upgrades for the (terrible) infotainment that will give you Apple CarPlay or Android Auto - so why not try a search?

Personally, I’ll be hanging onto mine for a while. It still looks incredible and it’s got a NA V8, both of which make the terrible infotainment system so easy to overlook.

But only you know what you do and don’t want.

There’s recent talk on the Lexus owners club forums of a £500-ish CarPlay retrofit for pre ‘21 cars that’d sort your problem out.
I have an LC convertible and regularly try and fail to come up with ideas of replacements.
There is nothing else for sensible money - new SL is pants, 911s don’t interest me at all and mostly sound rubbish, new dashboard Astons finally look attractive but they’re too new and expensive, BMWs are a joke, there’s literally nothing out there. Mustang maybe, or go classic?
Long term - who knows - but it’s a modern car that’s not exactly been a sales success so I can’t see it being collectible anytime soon. Just keep it until the warranty runs out

Depends on how long you are thinking of keeping it , what the mileage and condition would be like then too ?
Not sure how many were sold both by year and in total which will also have a bearing ?
I would guess that in say 10 years time it will fare better than a lot but I wouldn’t necessarily see it as a investment car.

Definitely not a car to keep as an investment, it's still got a huge amount of depreciating to do.

Buf you can't find anything you'd rather have, then why sell it? Bit confused by the question, which seems to be "should I sell this car for no reason, even though I like it more than all other cars?"

I would be astonished if a 7yo ~£45k luxury coupe didn't continue depreciating for some years to come. I'd guess they might bottom out in the £20ks somewhere at around 15 years old, but just a guess. The ISF might be a reasonable guide to future values.

It's hard to predict, but it certainly wouldn't be a car I'd pick today to appreciate any time soon, although I'm sure it will eventually.


I don't see any point selling your car unless you have an idea what you want next and why it would be better (for you) than the LC500. Otherwise I'd keep it, it's a cool car and you like it.
