Anyone any idea about this? He also got a military cross in 1918 but I have no idea if there's any info here about it.

Lieutenant then capt machine gun corp. that seems to tie in with your record at top under rank.

Yep, found that and have his citation for the MC and promotions to 2nd Lt and Lt from the London Gazette, but not his promotion to captain.

A shame so much of the WW1 archives were destroyed by luftwaffe bombing.

Thank you! Where did that come from??

Anyone know how long it could have taken between the action that resulted in a medal and the notice in the London Gazette? I've got the war diary for the 42nd battalion MGC but a vague date would help narrow the search down.
