Austec annouces an independant test on their upgrades!
Discussion
Paul has had enough with the poor attitudes from a few online here. And has agreed to settle this once and for all. He has nothing to hide and has always been straight up with all of his customers and it has been noted by the number of customers that stay faithful to Austec's services.
The company has built up a reputation for themselves of quality service and offer services from general maintenance through to engine building through to a full-on body and paintshop facility on site. I am only highlighting the extent of Austecs facilities to remind people that they are no ordinary indies, a lot of time and effort has gone into producing a business of this scale to offer the end customer a complete lifecyle of support for the customers enjoyment of TVR ownership to be the highest priority.

The rules of this engagement are:
a) the donor car must not have any performance mods previously done, bar exhaust system.
b) the car will either be a standard 4.5 or a standard red rose.
c) the car will be taken to Abbey Motorsports hub-dyno for the pre-mod charts.
e) the mods will be done with a neutral inspector.
f) pictures of the work will be taken through the duration of the installation.
g) the car will then be taken to Abbey Motorsports hub-dyno for the post-mode charts.
h) the results will be put up here on this forum for all to see, and the topic locked.
i) No more discussions of a derogatory nature will take place in Pistonheads castle, concerning these mods.
[/big]
Right,
Blue4.5 a standard cerbie has kindly donated his car for the work, I believe Paul might have a few offers, so he will select the car and contact the owner to bring it down.
I will await Pauls selection and bang it on here.
Please continue the mods discussion in this thread, as the others are somewhat diluted.

Can a run of "before and after" be done for the induction kit please? If it doesnt produce the claimed increase from the PR can someone from Austec please correct this?
Otherwise im not exactly sure what people are trying to acheive here?
As for the "poor attitudes" , thats perspective - to most here, it seems more like intrigued owners/specialists wanting to know the truth.

Can't we just let this go? It is getting rather boring now.
I couldnt agree more! I know many of us would like to let it go, but like BCA said, some need some proof because they are not convinced.
This should give us some numbers. But at least there'll be no more challenging the claims of these upgrades. And if there is, well I hope it will be done in a more sportsman-like manner, Cream should settle the tempers, I know what a few beers can do for me, so we'll all just get plastered, at the end of the day, we ALL carry the same TVR flag!

Just to let you know the details of the car, will try to contact Paul Later, mad at work (then how come I am posting I know
)
1998 4.5 25k miles. Full service at Fernhurts at 24K so healthy. Did 348 Bhp and 344 torque at SRR so it would seem in decent health (plus my exhaust was falling off at the time
)
I was thinking of getting the work done at either Trackcars, Austecs or Autocraft at some point so am not partial to any tuner, more than happy with cars running but an imprezza kept up with me a few weeks ago (obviously not standard) and want to be king of the road lol

I agree too, but I am worried it will turn into another match like before.
Why do I have a 4.2, arse!

Blue, you better get in quick though! Cos another serious enthusiast is already on the blower to them!

Hey Ash,
Good news at last, this is the direction I pushed for a long time ago and I appreciate the gesture by Paul.
a) I agree
b) I'd much rather the car be a standard 4.5, there's a lot more tuning info in the database on these cars compared to RR's.
c) excellent
d)wot happend to d? lol c'mon Ash get a grip mate
e) again great, do we agree the indy?
f) not really needed but hey if you want em fine
g) again this is fine so long as the time delay is short.
h) OK
i) If everything is done properly why should there be?
I'd like the following added though to ensure clarity.
Power graphs from Austec for each mod carried out
Standard car
Standard + map
Standard + injectors + further re-map
Standard + map + injectors + induction kit
A comparison car run at Abbey at the same time as the inital run and post-mod run with a recent SRR plot.

It will be costing Austec money to run on Abbey's hub-dyno, lets keep it simple.
1) Ceejay, I suggest you contact paul to discuss exactly what you are after.
2) I will then speak to Paul later today to confirm the rules of engagement and get the details up here for all to see. All tuners will then post "I AM HAPPY WITH THESE RULES AND CONDITIONS" and then Paul will execute the plan.
All formally, and monitored independantly and verified by Abbey Motorsports.
Let the show begin.
PS.. hehe, oops, I forgot a d) you're right... man I'm getting old...

Ash, wot numbers are we talking to have a hub dyno run?
Ceejay
I'm not sure, here is their website www.abbeymotorsport.co.uk/main.htm
It could be either a per run charge or a hourly rate on the dyno-packs.
Ceejay, PLEASE contact Paul and discuss the ins-and-outs of the rules and conditions and then once you both are on agreement, we may proceed.
But Can I make a suggestion?
Can we let this sleep until after Cream?
Because I'm sure the tuners out there have a lot on their hands to get prepared for Cream as it is!???
Lets make a rain cheque on this to continue on Sunday 25th of September???
I think we all need to concentrate on Cream.
We are forgetting there are only a few days left till the BIG event.
So what you say? Do we agree to leave this till the 25th?

Hey Ash,
Just phoned Paul, he was busy on the RR, hopefully he will call me later to discuss details.
I think it's best to sort the testing rules, regs and timescales before CREAM, that way everyone knows what the situation is beforehand. That has gotta be in the interests of everyone involved. It shouldn't take long either cos to achieve fair conditions they're quite straight forward additions really as I said earlier.
Obviously the testing has to be done after CREAM so we don't need to worry about it at this stage. Just make everyone aware of the details and when it's going to happen.
I hope you agree.
