To advance your driving skills:

1. Practice defensive driving techniques to anticipate and avoid potential hazards.
2. Master smooth acceleration, braking, and steering for better vehicle control.
3. Learn advanced maneuvers like parallel parking, emergency braking, and navigating complex road conditions.
4. Stay updated on traffic laws, road signs, and local regulations to drive safely and legally.

Thanks for the advice. What about collisions? Should they be avoided?

To advance your walking skills:

1. Right foot, then left. Alternatively, left foot, then right.

I find driving one-handed whilst safely posting to social media is an important skill.

Lol, in all seriousness, having done a Palmersport GT day, I quickly came to the conclusion I was a terrible driver biglaugh

Not so much in terms of observation, general awareness and driving to the conditions, but more vehicle control. For years I was too slouched in the seat and over reaching for the steering wheel.

A couple of minor seating position adjustments and I am now Ken Block, RIP smile

I suppose it is if you've not been schooled in it.

Adding to Rizwan's top tips.

Mine is to absolutely hoof it over any bridges triple figures if possible. Particularly the hump-back ones, because they often have trolls under them and it is wise to get far away from trolls without engaging.

This is Viz I'm posting to?

This is a list of minimum requirements for driving. I'd hate to see your basics.

Well I think that there is really only 2 things you need to concentrate on to get to a level similar to an advanced driver

1) in urban environments, drive without coming to a stop
2) on motorways or dual carriageways. Drive without using your brakes. (Except for emergencies obviously)

I have left out the obvious of obeying traffic laws, speed limits , box junctions etc.

But if you focus on those 2 things your would drive at a higher level.

Some of the ‘techniques’ I see on YouTube that are supposed to be advanced to my eyes just look like ways to make you concentrate and don’t really have any real world advantage. Reg Locals braking and gear technique being a case in point.

Could you expand on what you mean by driving in an urban environment without stopping? There must be copious scenarios where it is dangerous or will have an adverse impact on others.

An example might be avoiding stopping at a red light, by crawling towards it waiting for the change. This has an impact of those following. Is this the sort of thing you mean?

If you expand, we can understand.

There's some good stuff in "Advanced Driving" mostly around observation, awareness and planning. But it's all stuck in a world of daft affectations, like "I can drive around a town without using my brakes". But why would you want to?
