saw an article earlier about underrated villains in the cinema which I thought would be an interesting thread. We all know about, for instance, the 'blockbuster' bad guys Darth Vader or Palpatine. what about the less popular/common bad guys?

I'll start with:

Lo-Pan from Big Trouble in Little China

The (Rutger Hauer) Hitcher

Comic turns allowed? The various incarnations of Biff Mad Dog Tannen. And of course who doesn’t love Bennet in Commando?

I always thought Fouchet was a good villain in Bad Boys.

Harry Lloyd in Dr Who. He must have been late teens when he was in the Familiy of Blood episode.

He was utterly brilliant in it. He exuded menace.

Lord Anton Refa, played by William Forward, on Babylon 5. Originally just a bit part, but done so well that the character was given a meaningful death.

This guy...

A brilliant origin story as well.

Because it was an animated movie you somehow forgot that he was fully prepared to murder a man's innocent wife and children right in front of him, more than once.

Are there many characters you'd wish to get it more than this guy.

Complete psychopath. Awful, corrupt. Compelling.

This is from... Mathilda.

I'm pretty sure EVERYONE agrees on this one.

EVERYONE.

Stansfield is unhinged. Much like

Terry Walsh
Twin Town

The epitome of arrogant, corrupt copper.

The Operative in Serenity. Chiwetel Ejiofor absolutely smashes it out of the park.

Completely different vibe, but Gary Oldman's Zorg in Fifth Element is a great combo of sociopath and comedy turn.

Stansfield was a wonderful villain, but not underrated I think. Everyone knows of Leon.
I'll nominate the Sheriff of Nottingham, played by the late great Alan Rickman. He chewed up the scenery so completely you can even see him knocking parts of it over in a couple of scenes hehe

This guy (Gennaro) - remorseless and without compassion.

Great series btw and a strong recommend (it’s on Sky)

I don't believe Alan Rickman would have said 'gonna'.

Has exactly one chance to kill the king and usurp power. Takes it. Doesn’t monologue. Doesn’t justify his actions. Just kills.

And voiced by Charles dance if remember rightly. Good villain.
