I see according to teletext, JB is staying with BAR. It's going to cost him around the £18 million mark to keep Williams happy....which will probably help them get over the loss of Hewlett Packards' sponcership and BMW's engines.
Just wondering who is actually coughing up the 18 big ones...Jenson, Bar or Honda ?????

I thought that BAR are going to pay him £58m over 3 years anyway, so it probably worked out more feasible for him to buy it out and take the new contract then stay with Williams.

Or I could just be completely wrong.

According to this morning's Inependent he's sold the lifelong rights to his image and name to Honda for £48 m.

He's then giving between £13-£15m of that cash to Messrs Williams and Head.

All in an expensive lesson for him to learn.

er...aside from the fact that he's still got about 30 million left! I'm sure he is crying himself to sleep every night

I understood that he had to pay Williams but that BAR will refund him.

Yeah, £50 odd million over the next 3 years JB's getting from BAR in his new contract (so I heard).

Don't shed a tear for him, he's a very rich boy anyway, so it's not like he was struggling to find the money pay Williams.

Still...a very expensive learning experience for him nonetheless.

And whilst your average Premiershit runs the risk of messing up his hair, he doesn't risk his life when he runs out on a Saturday.

Honda have made a massive investment in someone who has never won a race.

Interesting stat in today's Telegraph: JB has completed 98 races without a win so far. No other previous world champion needed that long - Mika Hakkinen is "next worse" and only took 96 (he won the title the following year).

I love JB's style of driving and he is a character but I'm sorry to say I don't ever think he'll be champion. My money is on Alonso and Rakkinen swapping it for the next few years.

He had to buy his way out of the Williams contract as BAR are not able to do so legally as they are a third party. They (BAR/Honda) are compensating him for doing so is my understanding.

JB signed to go to Williams.

He then decided he didn't want to go to Williams.

Now he is staying at BAR.

He/BAR/Honda have compensated Williams.

I'd happily run the risk of death for £325,000 per week!

Given the economy of scale and the risks (albeit not too great nowadays) I'm not saying they don't earn it, just didn't realise how much they were on. Staggering!

Williams had a contract with Button (signed years ago).

Button not want play with Williams

Williams say 'you must'

BAR say 'we want play with Button.'

Williams say 'nowt to do with you'.

BAR say to Button, 'we give you extra money to buy your way out of contract.'

Button give Honda $ to Williams who are very happy because it was what they wanted alll along.

BAR get Button

Button get good wage plus money to buy out of contract.

BAR get to keep 'star' driver.

Button get to not drive shed next season.

Everyone a winner but Honda much poorer.

Brief history of JB and his contracts. (Especially for Nervous)

In 2004 JB decided he wanted to sign for Williams and tried desperately to leave BAR but BAR won via the contracts review board a decision to keep JB.
JB signed with Williams for 2005 as a result of this, but has since decided that he wants to stay at BAR, hence the need to pay £20M to unsign himself from Williams.

Personally I think the whole thing shows a distinct lack of judgement and also signs of personal insecurity on the part of JB.

F1 is a world of fast moving change and to back a team 1 year in advance (signing for Williams) shows a level of stupidity in the extreme. He could of got lucky and Williams might turn out to be world beaters next year.
