I'm in the process of purchasing a property in Spain and will need to convert approx £250k to Euros.

In the past I've used Revolut to do the exchange, but this was for a more like 100k. The procedure worked out OK though, but methinks the value I need to convert requires another route?

I had a quick quote from Currency Direct today and the difference between their rate and Revolut worked out at a cost of £460. This doesn't seem too bad.

Does anyone have any other recommendations for a place to get a decent rate for this sort of amount?

As this forum is frequented by powerfully built people of all sexes, I would appreciate your assistance!

Starling at the moment would give you Eur 118233.16
So it all depends on what you are getting from the other!

I bought a house in Mallorca a couple of years ago and all funding was through Wise.

Caution is needed with anyone exchanging money for you though as was seen last November when that internation exchange company went belly up owing millions ot its customers.

Can't remember if Wise is protected under the banking regs or not, but guess you and I are way over that protection limit anyway

Whoever you use, I'd do it in 5 x 50k chunks

Just in case, losing 50k would be painful but not as painful as losing 250k.

Fwiw, I used mostly wise when purchasing a house a few years ago, with a smattering with revolut.

Tend to use revolut on a 2 monthly basis now for general living expenses...

I'd give the OP EUR 125,000 vs. GBP250,000! biggrin

We’ve used a few companies over the years for moving GBP to Euros for our Spanish property.

We now use Currency Direct. Instant quote on their app (quote is live and valid for 30s) at 0.5% of spot rate (I’m not sure this is their standard rate).

Thanks for all the replies,

I'm currently exchanging some via Revolut and placing it in their Euro saving account (1.63% Yey!) It states it's protected up to the £85k limit.

Once it gets to this, I'll start bunging it to the Abogado.

The main tranche I'll probably use Currencies Direct or Wise.

Hope the current exchange rate stays strong!

I used https://www.smartcurrencyexchange.com/live-exchang... to transfer a similar amount back from Euroland to £.

I did it in four chunks as I couldn't move the total from my French bank in one go unless I paid an extra fee,

Trading 212 showing €297k for £250k today, no idea if that’s good. (After fees)

The rate has been around 1.19-1.20 recently, so that’s not bad.
(My wife has £ income but we live in € land, so often FX funds.)
