Whirring

For about two years now we have had a "whirring" sound from the car as it moves. I cant remember the details of it all, but I dont think it goes up with revs - just speed.

Any ideas?

This is a long shot but are you getting feedback thought the stereo?

On its way out! For two years! I would have though that by now it would have packed its bags, moved out and had several illegitimate children by an Essex lap dancer called Toni!

I would have thought that if it was going it would have gone by now. Take it the oil level is ok?

I've got an "erming" noise that sounds like it's coming from the gearbox and like you I can't put my finger on what the noise is.

The car/diff/gearbox has survived a trackday and loads of general hooning, the release bearing got changed when the seals went, so it's not that, I'm at a loss.

About a year ago, I used to worry about it, now I just forget about it until it actually breaks something and I can go - ah! that's what it was.

Baring in mind its pretty actively used (20,000miles or so we have had the noise now) and the diff deals with hillclimbs, sprints, standing starts etc etc etc - not to mention the mileage that the diff had to work hard when a driveshaft snapped in France! (the diff allowed us to drive back to Le Shuttle and therefore avoid faffing around with euro breakdown/ repatriation)

Doubt it's the diff somehow!
