I'm currently selling my LHD Audi TT 225bhp to buy a Lotus Elise. I'm very confused with the advise given by the price guides for a private sale. e.g

Lotus Elise 1999 T Reg 30,000 miles
Ad in Autotrader £14,750
Price in Parkers £15,320
Price in What Car Price Guide £13,500
Glasses Trade Price £11,543

Any clues on which I should use to bid people on ????

Thanks,

clanger

Nick

There is NO definitive price guide for an Elise depends on so many factors. General condition, HPi history, mileage, spec, colour, modifications, whether used for trackdays, service history, etc, etc. They are worth exactly what you are prepared to pay - there are dogs out there, but there are bargains too - some have NEVER been driven in anger. View and test a number - don't be seduced by your first 'date'.

No doubt this post has been of no use whatsoever to you - if in doubt get an expert to give advice on any prospective purchase. Buy a good 'un and you will be rewarded with unsurpassed driving delights. Caution tho' if you have a TT you must be prepared to sacrifice considerable creature comforts - but IMHO it will be well worth while. BUY NOW.

Always use the lowest documented value you can find - convince you seller that he's asking too much.

I would say that the autotrader prices are more than a little hopeful, especially at this time of year.

Ignore Parkers guide, never been close once in my experience.

I would try my luck offering about 13K for a car thats up for 14-14.5K. theres plenty about so just keep trying, someone will want your money.
