Without going into too much detail the 74 plate lends itself perfectly to my surname and I spotted a specific format is available on the DVLA I’d like for myself.

I’ve bagged one of the cheap Honda EV deals and it will be registered in sept so on a 74 plate reg but I am wondering if anyone knows if the dealer can secure any reg as part of the reg process?

I’ve asked the dealer but they are far from helpful so would like some back up facts to go back to get them to double check.

Obviously I can buy it myself but if there’s a way to save £400 then I’d rather do that.

Will the dealer not charge you the £400 plus an admin fee?

Dealers are just provided with a batch of registrations, with the first 2 letters denoting the area it was registered.

If you want a specific plate you are going to have to stump up the £399 for it from DVLA, it might be easier to buy the registration, let the dealer register it with whatever number they have and then transfer your plate onto it, otherwise at the end of the PCP they could argue that your specific registration is owned by them... Depend of course what your plans are at the end of the PCP...

Yep, if you want a specific plate, you will have to purchase it.

Let the dealer use one of the registrations from their block of registrations and they will supply the number plate. You can get the private registration and have the plates made up and then fit. All can be done on the same day that you receive the vehicle. You can remove and keep the dealer fitted number plate so that eventually when you dispose of the vehicle you can keep your private plate by putting it on retention and it is more than likely that DVLA will re-allocate the original registration and you will already have the number plates to fit.

I have a Honda eNy1 and I notice in the T&C that there's a £12 fee to change the plate, it seems I have to ask permission, despite me having the V5c because its a PCP!

It's a fee to update and issue new finance documents, thats all.
Hardly anyone reads the small print and rarely bothers!
