I have just had my 2016 981 GTS Caymans sports wheel retrimmed in Alcantara on an exchange basis,

I noticed that the replacement wheel seemed a little thinner and also that on the rear face of the wheel, it has 'finger indentations'.

Is this an earlier iteration of the sports steeing wheel from, say a 987? I don't remember my 2016 original wheel having the indents or it feeling slimmer.

If anyone could just confirm what their sports wheels are like, that would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Andy - my 981 GTS wheel (alcantara fitment) has finger indentations around the 10 & 2pm mark. It also has them at the 4 & 6pm mark.

Ah, thanks for that. Perhaps I'm mistaken after all then. I was sure my original wheel was smooth all round and, like me, a bit thicker!

biggrin no worries. Who did the exchange?

Would prefer my wheel was leather although probably in the minority here!

Wheel was done by Royal. My wife had her Golf GTi done at the same time. She is a big fan of an alcantara wheel. So am I actually!

Extremely good reputation I think you will find. I have had 4 done by them over the years.

Had my GT4 wheel retrimmed by them, came out great.

Yes Royal steering wheels are excellent, I think it's a chap called Linus, he did my 997 GT3 wheel for me years ago, and a 996 C4S one did a great job both times.

My (2016) 981 GT4 (alcantara) sports steering wheel is thinner than the standard one, but doesn't have any finger indents. Just the thumb indents above the horizontal spokes.

Out of interest, why did you have it retrimmed? Alcantara is meant to recover quite well with some love and attention from what I’ve read?

Unless it is a remarkable coincidence, I think you will find Linus is the main man at DesignLS
They have done 2 wheels for me, both excellent.

I fitted a GT4 Steering wheel into my 981 Boxster GTS. The stitching was yellow when I purchased it so I had to have it re-stitched to match my interior and it was recovered at the same time.
