Do I need to do a self assessment tax form to claim split year treatment on income?

Little bit confused but I think in order to not have to pay tax on income I will be earning in Saudi Arabia come September, I will need to claim a split year tax form, but can't really see where/ how to do this. I'll be moving from my UK employer, to a a Saudi employer (but global company) and from online reading I won't be able to just jump on the 0% taxation as I have spent previous year as a UK tax resident? Or is this just for self employed people?

Also how will HMRC know I have moved to Saudi? and not just stopped working in the UK.

It's complicated & depends somewhat on your future plans and what 'ties' you have to the UK.

There's a good flowchart here - https://assets.kpmg.com/content/dam/kpmg/pdf/2016/...

To get split year treatment you need to leave and then spend the whole of the following financial year living & working abroad.

When you complete your tax return for this financial year, you also complete an SA109 form to tell HMRC that you've left the UK and then next year to confirm you're still outside the UK.

Thanks, thats a really useful document. I will be moving in September and expect to be working and living in Saudi for the remainder of this tax year and entire of the next, so I think would be okay on that front.
