Or rather, their influence.

I believe in freedom of opinion and democracy but there just appears to be so much legislation at the moments geared up towards castrating only certain types of people. And it all seems to stem from the opinions of a group of loons. And whose opinions appear to oppose democracy and a free market economy.

Environmentalism seems to me like a new form of religious fanaticsm that has been created to take place of others that have gradually been eroded away in the Western world.

The thing that bothers me is this though: they make huge assumptions and prophecies based on psuedo science and extreme trains of polical paradigm. (If I can call it that) I see so much evidence on the net and other sources that man-made climate change is just the biggest load of claptrap going. I seem helpless, they talk rubbish, public takes note and I can't do anything about it. Especially when their political scaremongering affects people like me.

It's the blatant marginalisation of certain consumer products that irriates me though. Re: 4X4s: they don't produce that much more emissions than your average hatchback and yet they are completely demonised by the Greens for 'polluting'. Especially when transport emissions only make up a tiny percentage of all grobal emissions anyway. Seems more like envy politics.

Anyway, what does everybody recommend? How do I speak out? I'm willing to dedicate quite a lot of time and effort to this.

"what's in it for them"

Making energy usage seem greedy and damaging to the environment allows governments to tax (more revenue) it's usage whilst also taking some sort of high moral ground by being seen as doing something about climate change.

There was a UN report a while ago that gave evidence as to man-made climate change. Governents and the public alike believed it's conclusions. It was later found that it was dogged by data changes and various amounts of significant data were omitted because they contravened the desired conclusion. Conclusions were also based apon computer modelling that was said to be grossly innacurate. There is also no physical or undisputable evidence that were are having even the slightest effect on our planet's climate.

Easy.

Split the country down tiddle and put all the lentilists and criminals on one side and the rest of us can stay on the other.

When they have had enough of being murdered and mugged becuase their softly approach to tackling crime has not worked they will be calling for the return of the death penalty. They may even start to have a common sense aproach to the enviroment

Clearly man mande climate change is drivel. The only purpose of the current dogma is to extract guilt money from the gullable. This will be squandered like the rest of our taxes on dancing whores and fripparies for the elite civil servants. When the evidence that solar activity has reduced and hence the planet is cooling arrives in 30 years time, these w*nkers will claim it was due to the trillions spent to combat global BS and simply move on to the next "GOD" Ie any concept that cannot be easily disproved and is open to interpretaion and ultimately belief. My guess is the next one is already emerging. The great global water shortage. They will carry that on beyond my life expectancy and then probably follow it with oil shortages. You know there are early film archives of these pricks ancestors, they wore sandwich boards saying "the end of the world is nigh", Pathetic.

This could well be complete twaddle, but do all the cows in the world not create more carbon dioxide than the cars?

My mate who has studied (a PhD) the Green "left" is adamant that they are pretty much anti-science and in particular anti-experimentation - ie you mustn't try out new things to learn from them because it might damage the enviroment.

(I suspect they would like us all to go back to living in mud huts)

They are at odds with the traditional socialist left in this respect (the socialist/marxist left is very pro-science).

IMHO the Greens hide a nasty authoritarian agenda under a veneer of soggy-liberalism which they use to sell their stuff to our current collection of plonker politicians (I mean ALL 3 parties here) with a "look like you care" spin.

The reality is that they are a threat to all libertarian thinking - left or right.

Simple - big news story of the day is the huge rise in CO2 emissions from the increase in cheap air flights - which means in order to reach HMG targets for cutting CO2 emissions, every other CO2 producer would have to cut their pollution levels to ZERO to compensate.

So, if the lentil knitters and whale fiddlers get stroppy about our lovely cars, point out that most modern cars actually clean the air, and planes, cows, algae and their beloved communist monoliths eg China, and the dreamy Nirvana that is India, are the major contributors to atmospheric pollution. Then tell them to clean their toenails.

er....MEN probably......

We should do what the French/Italians do, if the Government introduce a law that they don't like they just ignore it.

My beef is with these noise pollution idiots at the local councils that are slowly putting all of the race circuits out of business.
There is a 105Db limit on most circuits now, yet I have a petrol strimmer that produces 112Db. So I can cut the lawn on a Sunday, but not drive my car on a race circuit.......work that one out.

A fair summation Prof Beard, though I would say that out of the three main parties the Conservatives pay least attention to the views of these scum.

Yeah thats why they introduced speed cameras and the automatic fuel tax increase Oh yeah and it was Maggie said theres no point in building more roads cos they will just fill up. FFS the tories are pandering to pond life greens just as much as any of them. We need someone to challenge these idiots. If the chimp can do it then so can we we just need the will.

The Lentilista: what can be done about them?

The phrase "fava beans and a nice Chianti" comes to mind.

Too harsh?

Their views on 4X4's is the best illustration of their underlying argument... "Nobody should be allowed to have anything bigger or more polluting than me."

Just how much are these people trying to help the environment in other ways? Do they own washing machines for instance? And if so, why, when they are so polluting compared to washing clothes in a bucket of water.

And how about televisions and other consumer electronics? What a frivilous use of precious resources those are.

In fact, I'd go as far as saying that any of these people complaining about gas guzzling 4x4s who's own lifestyle isn't similar to that of Stone Age man should be ashamed of themselves!
