Over-riding PSE control on 997s

While only a 993 owner myself, I was reading an interesting article about the PSE on 997s that I thought might be of interest to some of you. Apparently they have rigged it so that the PSE "noise" mode switch only works when the sports mode is selected, so the PSM, suspension and ABS system are all affected aswell. I.e. the option of trundling along in "comfort" mode but making a nice noise is not permitted by the electronics. Additionally, like the simpler system on the 996, below a certain speed "noise" mode is automatically switched off.
Not surprisingly there are owners looking for a way around these issues and currently two "solutions" exist. The first is the disconnection and plugging of a control hose (presumably the one that actuates the switch) - the magazine included a photo of the offending article and the bypass - the photo came originally from the rennteam forum so look there for more info. The only questions were the effect on warranty.
The second solution was disconnection of the speedo, though the legal ramifications of that are a whole other issue!
No doubt some bright spark somewhere will find an electronic solution to the problem - there are people on the case it seems.

I've got PSE on my 997. The only time I've driven the car without the sport button pressed was on a motorway with a big headache. I think they've got it right, everything on one button. The only problem is it defaults to off, which I find strange for a 911. If you drive a 997 S out of sport mode a lot of the time I'd question your decision of car in the first place.
A fair comment no doubt - I suspect that I'd be in sports mode all the time too! However, there are owners who have complained about it - in the article that I read one fellow was moaning about how, when driving in wet, slippery conditions he wanted to make the right noise AND have the PSM in numpty mode.
Maybe it's a non-issue then and the number of people wanting to change the system will be in the minority.

I've never thought about that. The 997 has so much grip in all conditions for a driver to be pushing so hard that they need PSM to control their driving is a bit of a contradiction.
If you're confident enough to get the 997 out of shape in the wet 'safely' I would have thought you'd have the driving skills to cope with the car without electronic aids. In an emergency situation the PSM will step in when in Sport mode anyway.

I guess the owner in question was not a confident driver and wanted the PSM in full safety net mode when driving in dodgy conditions, rather than having it intervene a bit later in the proceedings! There is still the issue of the PSE going to quiet mode in the lower speed ranges - that in itself may be enough to make owners want to override the switch.

I didn't realise that it 'switched' at lower engine speeds. Even at tickover there's a noticeable difference between the two modes.
I don't think it's as good as the 996 facelift application though, that was significantly louder.
