Colleague at work is looking for a good long weekend in the Lakes. I told him I knew who to ask

Edited to add: Pub/restaurant B&B would be best!

If he wants to splash out www.gilpinlodge.co.uk

Its not your average B&B but the food is fantastic.

www.brackenrigginn.co.uk/ is supposed to be good. My parents stayed there a year or so ago and came back with good reports.

Whereabout in Lakes, Liebchen? Lot of lovely villages - all with some very pleasant B&Bs/guest houses und some farms take in guests too - at reasonable cost.

Liebchen - where to start..

OK - Kirkstile Inn (Cockermouth) (ist very good) Also Bridge at Buttermere ist fave water hole for us.

In around Keswick...

B&B around £30-£50 pp/pn -

SPring Farm- Ravenstone Guest House - Horse & Farrier inn - Bower House Inn (also good pub grub und decent selection of Real Ales.. Also Armathwaite Hotel - decent restaurarant too.

Eden Valley direction - Weary Contemporary Inn und Belted Will Inn both Brampton - good reports heard. Also Crosby Lodge...

(Eden Valley - quieter - bit cheaper than rest - and with good access to National Park - Also has some wicked walks und drives )

Und decent food to be had at Talking Tarn Country Park (ist a fave drive for us )

Restaurant where you likely to meet us....

Keswick:

Lucas Ristorante/ the Rembrandt/ Theatre By the Lake/ Lakeland Spice Cuisine (curries und spicy food - some very h-h-hot! )

Ullwater - Sharrow Bay or Inn on the Lake at Glenridding...

Tea rooms - Yew Tree at Honister, Theatre By the Lake here in Keswick.

Grasmere - plenty of water holes - Jumble Room serves decent cream teas though. Also William of Grasmere.

Ambleside? Drunken Duck Lucy 4 or any of the Lucy places.... Lucy on a Plate. Old Dungeon...

Bowness/Windermere - all heaving with pubs/B&Bs etc... but if you want different - try Wilf's at Staveley - Ernest (from paulie's site works nearby - standard of food there ist excellent - very popular with bikers, cyclists - but bit of an "industrial" setting. But food ist excellent by all accounts.

We are still exploring

Thanks all

Especially WildCat for the rather comprehensive list.

I'm now wondering whether to write to steviebabes for some help with this
