Hi,
For my MOT I need to replace the Gaz Gold front shocks that have both cracked at the bottom.
The car is only for road use so quite fancy "plug and play" Bilsteins rather than replacing with adjustables, which I never have/will adjust.
Has anyone purchased Bilstein front shock-absorbers recently? Any idea of prices? Bilstein were no help and just referred me to Blackdown...who are on holiday til 27th :-(
TIA

Just wait for blackdown to return, hes an ex Tvr chassis engineer so well worth it.
You will need to replace the whole lot sadly to keep it balanced but its money well spent.
Gaz do repair stuff so maybe worth a call if you wanted to refurb your existing stuff.

Why sell a shock 1/2 complete.
No spring or bushes!
I’d definitely wait until Ben Lang is available.

I just replaced the front shocks on my 94 Car whilst overhauling the wishbones with o.e.m. type metalastic bushes, top and bottom ball joints and track rod ends, with Gaz Gold Pro units, what a difference!

The ride is now terrible, hard and noisy, it has ruined the ride in the car, compared to the Billies.

Wish I'd never bought them! ( Won't even bother fitting the rears!)

Must admit I didn't see much difference between GGP and Bilstiens comfort wise.
Are they new and set up correctly?

Brand new fitted this week, tyre pressures set at 22F &
24R.
Horrible, horrible clattering, go-kart style ride, I hate it!

Two years ago I replaced the Billies on my Tuscan Convertible with Nitrons and Michelin Sport 4 tyres and it was great . So this week I (well X-Works) got round to doing the same on my Chim 450 and the transformation is even more noticeable. The Front Billies were original (24 years) and the rears I replaced because they were leaking (probably 17 years ago) . I got Nitron Comforts (Springs Front 325 ft/lbs..Rear 250 ft/lbs Rebound 10 on both) on the Chim but Heath at X-Works has set the dampers quite hard (his preference) . I went out today and the ride is really nice. On the bumpy pot holed country roads around me, the ride much more compliant and very steady at speed on the motorway... So I feel it was money well spent smile .
