After an unfortunate oil change incident I now have rather a large patch of oil on my driveway (actually so much that BP may be interested in the extraction rights). Any hints and tips as to how to remove it.

On a not unrelated topic I can recomment 1001 cleaner for getting it out of carpets

Sorry bit slow this afternoon Half asleep waiting to knock off to drive up to Cadwell for a trackday tommorow, which has two advantages i) its a trackday, ii) its a long way from the Mrs and the oil on the carpet.

a clothes washing powder/dishwasher powder poured onto it should allow it to soak up and also break down the oil

I'll second that - my driveway was an oil-soaked mess, so I bought the cheapest BIOLOGICAL own-brand washing powder I could find. Covered the affected bits of the drive, wet it (but not too much) and left it for a day or so, keeping it moist. When I washed it away the patch was amazingly clean.

Only trouble was that it was so clean that I then had to do the whole rest of the drive to match!

Have you got a pressure washer?

Did a pretty good job of mine as long as you don't spend all ing day cleaning the bugger a square inch at a time

This is true. Does need to be BIOLOGICAL though... avoid the poncy non-bio shit. It's better than Swarfega for getting oil off your hands as well, though it stings a bit.

Ive recently found that brake cleaning spray does the trick, somehow it just makes all types of fluids from coolant, clutch, brake, steering fluid and oil disapear,it might require a couple of uses for heavy deposits.
