I've just had a call at work from someone selling targeting banners and sponsored (not PPC) links on Lycos. I thought about it for a while, thinking Lycos are one of the bigger players, but then I came to thinking that I haven't actually personally used it for a search in years.

Some web searches (On google, ah sweet irony) suggest that Lycos has just a few percent market share now, behind the likes of Google, Yahoo, AJ etc, so I thought i'd find out:

- Which search engine do you use, primarily?
- Anyone got a decent link to a source of the latest market share info?

It will at least give me some more questions to ask when I get a call back with some more price break downs I have asked for.

Personally, I use Google for 99.9% of things now, mainly because of the google toolbar and the fact that I can get to it easily.

Cheers all,

Tony

I use Google and so does pretty much everyone I know.

See here and click on the Nielsen net ratings for your answer.

I use google and so do most of the people I know. I think it is now in use as a part of everyday language.

"Just Google it"

I think this is a very important indicator of the success of a product.

does anyone ever get the idea that google might filter out searches?

as in if you searched for something nasty like bomb making, say it found you a page on how to make a bomb, but filtered it out for national security reasons.

(i know there is a filter, but im talking about with this off)

since google is american do you not think they might do this?

edited to say, i dont ACTUALLY want to make a bomb, i was just using it as an example

Google, and occasionaly Yahoo.

Yahoo is set up as the homepage on my computer here at work but I'll usually still use Google anyway...

Google.

It is such a minimalist page - no ads, pop-ups or crud to load. Just quick answers.

Either Google or www.37.com it searches Google, Yahoo etc.... in all 37 web search engines and gives you combined results.

Hasn't been powered by Google for a while now. They have their own engine (well, bought from someone)

Is the other one I use, it's a cluster search engine in that it groups identical sites or references together on the left hand side in a tree menu.
