What is the average(ish) salary people in various occupations earn these days? Doctor, laywer, dentist, cashier, plumber, accountant, construction, secreatry etc.

Average, taking into account someone of 'middle' standing, not at the top of the tree, but also not just starting out either.

Company directors would have to be excluded to give more accurate employee figures.

Just outside london perhaps, as london figures are always inflated.

I know its a 'how long is a piece of string' (answered elsewhere on PH today :hehe:) type of question, but I'm curious how much other people earn on average in their jobs.

Just add a profession, and an approximate earning figure in that line of work.

Erm, Id rather not say on PH. I hope to break into 6 figures in the next few years (if things go well).

Mind you, I only bought my first car at 28 (always earned min wage, till I set up my own business) so Ive done my fair share of hard work for no pay.

No, your answer was really interesting. Give explanations of inside and outside the city etc, and you paint a really clear picture, I honestly didnt have a clue how much lawyers earn... money isnt everything, but ive always been interested in how people make theirs.

I don't work in the city, but I would say qualified accountants in the south-east (excluding the city) are paid in the 30K-50K range on average. More senior accountants on average 40K upwards and partners more again.

A partner at my firm has just bought himself a Bentley Continental GT, I am sure that goes down very well with the clients he goes to visit (who are typically small and medium sized companies)

Depends on what field of law, what region of the country and what size firm.

I'm a 9 year PQE litigator at 20 partner firm in Manchester and earn around £50K.

Partners tend to earn rather more than us mere mortals, particularly equity partners who own a stake in the business.
