Hi all,

I am looking to change mine/my wife’s old MK5 Golf GTi for a Mk7.5 GTI DSG.

I have seen one (67 plate, with 64k miles) and seems like a good example, from an independent BMW/Mini dealer (was probably give. in PX) .

I was told it has a full service history.

I went to view it today. Upon looking at the service history, it is as follows :

2019 - Oil service (9,200 miles)

2022 - brake fluid change / inspection service / used car MPC (44,400 miles)

2023 - oil change service (52,400 miles)

2024 - interval inspection (61,000 miles)

I am slightly concerned that it doesn’t have any service records between 9,200 and 44,400 miles. It is a good, clean example and drives fine, so I am being too fussy ?

The dealer is happy to get a DSG service done and have offered me a good price for my Mk5 as PX.

The dealer is mentioning covid as a reason for the lack of servicing in 2020/2021 which may be valid.

They also mentioned that the services are due at 20,000 mile intervals due to the long life servicing.

I have done some Googling on the service intervals but I am not getting a definitive answer.

So my question is, based on this history, would it put you off buying the car ?

I’m not sure if I am being too fussy on this, considering it is not that easy to find good clean examples of this car in the market nowadays, especially at my budget.

Thanks in advance !

I'd be bothered too as it shows neglect for the car.
You cant blame covid for everything.

Don't understand why the oil wasn't changed in 2022 with the brake fluid.

It may have been as it says ‘inspection service’…I am not sure what that involves and the dealer didn’t know either.

Apparently they can’t get the information due to GDPR rolleyes

Send me reg or chassis and I'll double check for you.

Oil service = change oil/filter
Inspection service = vehicle inspection (NOT an oil change)
Oil & inspection service = both

If that history is accurate then I too would walk; not a rare car so buy a better one.

Yeah, I’m hoping that it’s actually had the service in 2020/2021 but it’s just been missed on the dealer’s print out.

Hopefully Dr G can clarify it for me smile

My 7.5 gti PP is every year - inspection or oil change rotating.

Covid is nonsense reason for not servicing it for that long, if anyone said that to me they would instantly put me off giving them any business.

An inspection service is VW parlance for a major service. It involves an oil and filter change.
This is not correct. A "major" service would be logged as "Oil & inspection" with spark plugs and air filter as additional items.

The service interval will be set at the time of service and can indeed go on the 19k "flexible" intervals. Determined by use.

The history on the car the OP mentioned is indeed poor. O&I at 9k, O&I with sparks, gearbox oil at 44k.

Walk away and find a better car.

That's really useful to know, thanks. Can you also explain what an "Interval Inspection" is?

Thank you.

Firstly, walk away, there are lots around, although the good ones can go in just a day
