Exactly my point. They only slow down people who would be slowing down anyway (most likely).
They do nothing to manage inappropriate speed.
Or alternatively; as a method of speed reduction, they fail due to the fact that most modern vehicles have large travel, soft springs, tardy rebound, large wheels, and an enormous centre of mass well off the ground. Meaning the mindless Muppets ignore them.

Mostly too fast, making horrific noises on their way out with a full boot, or incredibly slow with one person stalling and another needing two attempts to get over one of them.
(It was a long wait!)

Their purpose is to piss people off, both the drivers by slowing/ veering between cushions, and the residents who have constant Thumping outside and increased polution from braking and accelerating.
They're actually funded by the local suspension/ tyre firms / aligners (maybe)
I sometimes wonder if there's a connection between road quality/ speed bumps and the number of soft/ heavy SUV crossovers people buy to flatten them.

It must be at least 15 years since i read a report that clearly stated that speed bumps don't work,in fact,the average speed in areas with speed bumps went up a little bit.Only vehicles that were shown to be slower was emergency vehicles.
Same report also showed a noticeable increase in back problems drivers of buses and lorries would be suffering from.
In the times we now live in,the extra pollution from braking and accelerating is off course another addition to said report.
I can only imagine that it's budget restrains that prevent councils from removing them.
Or could it be that the general public think they work and the councils want to be seen to do "the right thing" ?
