I’m looking to buy a car for my 40th. I’m looking for a car around £15k. Ideally I’m looking for something fun to drive on the weekend, that can also take a set of golf clubs and a trolley.

How old?
Will it be your only car?
What defines fun? Sports car? GT? Hot hatch?
Give us something to work with

It will be my only car. I have an Octavia for work. But don’t want to pay the BIK. I was thinking of a GT. Hot Hatch could also work.

Toyota GT86 would be fun and with the back seats down should be OK for the Golf bag and trolley .

Buy a £5k shopping trolley and use the spare £10k to rent Caterhams and do roadtrips. You'll lose no money on the snotter and the wear/tear on the Caterhams are someone else's problem.

A Jaguar XK with the newer 5.0 litre engine is a nice GT by all accounts.

Bit of budget creep but these offer everyday practicality while still being an event to drive.

I guess it's personal preference but I find that Lexus RC and Merc CLS pretty dull.

Any other suggestions? I’m not that keen on the Type R. I’m sure it’s fun to drive but it’s a bit Max Power.

Boxster? Loads more practical than it looks.

See also GranTurismo.

OP what have you always wanted cos it might be your last chance to get one?

eg,
NA Honda type R - 8000rpm+
BMW 135/140 - 6cyl + rwd
mk7.5 Golf GTI - 3dr and manual

Infact any hot hatch, they are all fading away. Manufacturers are moving to electric, auto everything, SUVs

Jaguar XK 4.2 X150.

You will get an absolutely mint example for £15k.

Also a very reliable car, more so than the 5.0.

More than fast enough, sounds great, handles WAY better than you would imagine due to it being relatively light.

You will also get lots of positive comments and no one will hate you.

For the money i dont think you can beat that if you can live with the running costs, lovely cars.
You could get into a Cayman if that interested you but not sure on the room for the trolley.

If you're going to get something special for your 40th then get something that has something about it.

E500 Coupe, I'm bias but these fit the brief & are a very good GT car:

E400 coupe not as special as the V8 above but it's a good engine & you get a facelift model:

Or go for the full fat & get a CL500:

Those E Class Coupe are nice. I also do like the BMW. Any other suggestions?
