Just in case anybody does business (or works for) any firms based in SE Texas (or knows some people that live there), I thought that I would share the latest information from the NOAA overlayed on an easier to read map (power of photoshop). It looks like a Cat 4 at landing and will not drop to tropical storm level until it reaches Dallas/Ft Worth. Additionally, Houston could receive a big hit because they will be to the right of the eye (typically the strongest area is lower right quadrant)

Good luck to any PHers in the area

Just what the southern US need. At least people might make an attempt to leave now, whether they walk, or drive, etc. What would happen if it did end up like katrina? Would you guys have the manpower to man 2 emergency zones?

Yup, residents of low lying areas in Houston are being advised to evacuate.

Latest maps and forecasts say it's heading straight for us, due to come ashore in Galveston late on Friday.

If people are interested, a good link for tracking maps etc is:

http://weather.chron.com/auto/chron/tropical/tracking/at200518_5day.html

Our office staff have been given the option of going home early to prepare, gas staions have queues down the road, panic buying is hitting all the shops....

I'm heading off to buy a cover for the car to prevent flying object damage - I'm going to park it in the interior of a multi storey to prevent flooding, etc. I also have to get a mate's Porsche out of a low lying garage and stash it somewhere to prevent it getting flooded.

No hotel rooms are available this side of Oklahoma, and I've been invited to a number of hurricane parties. I'm planning to get all packed up with valuables, important paper work, PC, provisions, etc and then monitor the news till late Thursday when I'll make a decision.

Still, if the office is closed tomorrow I should manage a round of golf in the morning!

The shaved monkey AKA Bush is on a hding to nothing here.

If Rita strikes Texas and they do the right think he will be accused of only doing it because it is his home state. If she does what he did last time (play a bit of golf and hang out with his mates) until everyone is fighting each other over a 42 inch plasma when they don't have clean water, he will be hung out to dry (excuse the pun).

I bet he is hoping for a hit on NO again.

I hope everything works out for you, then. Have you talked with any of your neighbors. Texans are good people. They would probably run over and board it up for you for a round of beer...

Good luck!

I've been looking to buy a house here in Houston and am currently in a contract on one. I had it inspected yesterday and everything looks like it's a goer.

Needless to say I'm waiting till after the weekend before moving forward. It's got these really nice old oak trees all round it, which would be great at most times, but not with Rita coming in.

Will need to see what it looks like after the weekend.
