Just bought the above with my new PC. But cannot get it to work on my laptop or Desktop. The new PC cost enough so should not need USB driver updates.

When I plug in the HHD their is a noise from the pc to say it had been plugged in but I cannot find it on my pc. IE it does not come up on my computer file next to the internal hard drive.

When I go to divice setting int he control panel it says the device is working correctly.

WHat am I doing wrong. I thought it would be the same my usb sticks I have used in the past

please helpppppppppp

Right click on "My Computer" icon on the desktop... click "manage"

Then go to "disk management" and you may have to turn it on / format / partition it there...

It needs initialising through Windows Disk Manager.

As Podie says

Right Click My Computer>Manage>Disk Management

The additional disk will be in there, right click and select initialise.

Thats because its not intialised

The more worrying thing is why you dont have manage

What about start>run>devmgmt.msc

On XP Home if you RIGHT CLICK my computer, MANAGE should be the 5th one down - just below SEARCH.

Left click and DISK MANAGEMENT is under STORAGE.

As for what to do next - I'll let the IT guy's tell you 'cos I ain't got a clue!!

Hope that helps

Chris

Getting you to run devmgmt.msc was my mistake, thats device manager.

As it says, do you have Manage in the list when you right click My Computer?

To get there from start>run its compmgmt

Remal, as the guys have said. ***Right***-click on My Computer and select Manage.

On the left, under Storage, select Disk Management. You should see the drive in the listing.

Right click it, select create partition. Then format.

so sorry for sounding F**king stupid. Its never easy asking for help when you don't know what you need to do. But many thanks I have now sorted it out and thanks again.

I have never had to format a drive unless it was when re formatting xp which is very straight forward. I had no instructions with my HDD and their was no mention about having to format the drive to get it working.

Regards A non IT person but you may have guessed
