Guys will I get a ticket I was turning right and stopped at a box junction inside. Thought it was clear then moved and it wasn't bike came zooming through so had to stop again and then followed by cars. So I was blocking the oncoming lane slightly they still went past me but got a few dirty looks. Am I likely to get a fine for this as I was turning right. Wish I just waited until it was completely clear and their lights changed red . Defo cctv on this junction

Nobody know whether you will get a fine. You'll have to just wait and see.

If you were turning right, you should not get a penalty.

I know but I turned to far to the right and blocked the oncoming traffic who had right of way. So I wasn't sure on this I thought I was clear to go but wasn't and had to stop way further then I would intend

You should be alright as it sounds like you were the lead vehicle turning right, yes? With that being 100% legal and you not causing an accident or any real danger by getting the turn wrong, I don't see how you can be fined.

Sadly, does not mean you won't be! But I think your chances of being OK are high, not least if you were the leading vehicle turning right.

London is normally pretty reasonable for overturning incorrectly issued box junction fines, even if you do get one. I know 2 people locally to me who have had they fines overturned for issues in a junction local to me. And they weren't even turning right, but had stopped in the junction when they were going straight ahead. But the key was, their exit was clear when they entered the junction. But it's a long rectangular box, with 3 lanes, and people are buggers for entering, seeing they can't get out, so swapping lanes, swerving in front and stealing your intended exit space.

You can stop in a box junction if not turning right, providing your exit was clear when you entered. Because the alternative is crashing into the back of the idiot who is now in your exit space.

I am probably very wrong (reading the highway code was 33 years ago for me), but lead vehicle or not, if you can't get out of the yellow box, should you go in it at all?

Nah, it still confuses me.

Here is the Highway Code Rule 174. This states: “You must not enter the box until your exit road or lane is clear. However, you may enter the box and wait when you want to turn right, and are only stopped from doing so by oncoming traffic, or by other vehicles waiting to turn right.

It does make it sound like the leading vehicle has no worries at all. A little cryptic re those behind the lead vehicle, as your lane is now not clear due to the leading vehicle 'blocking' it.

The offence is entering the YBJ if it isn't clear the other side. Afaik the offence is NOT stopped in a YBJ.

As long as your exit is clear when you enter the box you should be ok.

Even if turning right your exit needs to be clear when entering. However whether you are the lead car or behind it you are safe if the exit is clear but you cannot access it due to oncoming traffic, or the traffic in front of you

Don’t see anything cryptic there

It’s quite clear you can enter the box and wait if turning right

If you’re the lead car and blocked by oncoming traffic

Or if you are stopped by others wanting to turn right

Seems quite straight forward

Perfectly clear to me as well. My response only applies to vehicles turning right.

In that case why are you mis-quoting the bit in bold?

I am not! If you are turning right you can only enter the box if the road you are turning right in to is clear. You are allowed to stop in the box if the road you are turning right in to is clear but you cant exit it via it because of oncoming traffic or the vehicle in front of you is stopped due to the oncoming traffic.

If the exit road is not clear you should nt be entering the box/
