Barging / Shedding. £2k for a second car

I'm in need of a proper second car, one that will get the wife from A to B in relative comfort, safety and reliability in line with the assigned budget.

There are a billion mini's for this money of course and that might be the answer but throwing it out there for consideration.

Not bothered about milage if there's at least evidence of some maintenance and care. THe only real stipulation i have is bluetooth for her phone.

But, check out the "joy of running a shed" thread on here, we are a helpful lot and all run sheds way under that budget quite happily.

I put lots of miles on a £1k 2008 Petrol Vectra for business usage, been a fantastic car in all honesty.

Could be miles out here but I'd imagine it'd be hard to find any car with built in blue teeth at that budget. Surely best bet is to find best car locally and fit a kit?

My suggestion would be a Mondeo of some description. Very comfortable and plenty of choice.

I had a good time in a 2012 Mitsubishi Colt. 1.3 chain cam engine, spacious, decent kit.

Suzuki Swift also worth a sniff.

Ford Focus 1.6 petrol MK2.5 or MK3. If buying the MK3 make sure it has the hydraulic PAS rather than electric one as they are problematic

Hyundai IX35. I got a Premium 1.7 2010 with 110k for £2.5k with 12 months MOT
New clutch, tyres, battery and discs and pads all around

5 months have traveled 4k and averaged 45mpg.

Needed one drop link in that time.

Not sure if this is the type of car that your better half would want to drive about in but...

A VW Passat B5.5 is pretty solid. Plenty within budget. The PD Tdi engines are pretty much bullet proof. As are the 1.8t petrol ones. Bluetooth im sure can be added to any car these days

The last two SOTW cars both looked like great choices (Audi TT and BMW 330i).

Might not have Bluetooth but I'm pretty sure it isn't too hard to retro-fit.

Pretty broad spectrum there!

How far is A to B and is it city, motorway, rural and most importantly, what are the wife's demands... be it what she would like and what she wouldn't like?

You can add one of those FM Bluetooth efforts or a Parrot kit relatively cheap so really, for £2k the list of possibilities is vast!

£30+ a month, cheaper than a brand new phone contract for some, or any other monthlies

OP ask on the shed thread as suggested - simple N/A petrol is the best, unless you feel lucky and run something else - could well pay off of course, its a fun game and very rewarding shedding if you play your Brucey cards right. Good luck!
