We all know that the government need to tax stuff to pay for public services. So, if you had the chance what would you tax?

For me, the first things would be boring cars, cricket, vacuous TV adverts, cosmetic surgery, leggings, playing music in public areas, cyclists and ponytails or hair buns on men.

Anyone refusing point blank to get a job and demanding benefits.
Are you physically able to work?
Yes?
Good, off you go then. Refusal to get a job means we tax you at 40%

£1/square meter of anthracite grey on your home, per month.

£100 per year if your garden has less that 50% greenery.

£1 per pound over weight per month.

£1 per day if under 10,000 steps done (disabled and over 75's exempt)

£10 "drive through" junk food tax, per visit.

£1 social media tax, per visit

£1 per hour TV tax for ever hour watched over 3 hrs per day.

£5 per month "community tax", if you don't do something voluntary for the community for a minimum of an hour a month you pay a fiver.

With the money raised, free fruit and vegetables, (and white paint hehe), and community classes on healthy eating and exercise, within a year or two the money saved on the NHS will reduce waiting times down to an hour, in fact they'll come to you because they'll be so board hanging about the hospital with nothing to do. biggrin

Tax all illnesses. That would massively help the NHS.

Similarly dental problems, the dentists shortage would disappear overnight.

Famously the shortage of NHS dentists has really helped things. You are basically suggesting privatisation after all.

Religion.

I would take away all the tax exemptions for religious charities. Also, if schools are to be CofE or Catholic or whatever instead of just schools, I would charge the respective church £5000 per kid per year. All it does is promote their view, they are sat on billions, they can afford it. They can also look after their own buildings instead of begging for grants.

I would also tax the living daylights out of the gambling industry.

I'd tax all NHS, government department, school and local authority employees. After all they don't actually pay tax already so adding a 5% surcharge is not more.

Oh... and fascists too

A tax on the weight of new cars to stop this trend of everyone feeling they need to drive a 2.5 tonne SUV.

Leggings / yoga pants should be subsidised, not taxed.

I'd tax

- people who park on pavements
- people with stupid exhausts

Essentially any online comments that show people aren't capable of original thoughts.
