It is horrendous everywhere, hospitals are the worst,
But any car park now seems expensive, it doesn’t have to be that way I was in Monaco last week and parked just 4 mins walk from the Casino, stayed for 5 hrs and it cost £3.80 the car parks are very clean and all have toilets that are clean.
So I do object to having to pay £1.80 for an hour minimum when I only need to stop for 10 mins. In a dark graffiti ridden slum.

I was in Wroxham (nr norfolk) recently. Extremely busy village with a huge central car park for about 300 cars.
I had to ask 2 different people to confirm it was free. I was genuinely shocked. Don't think I've parked anywhere free for years.

I live 10 miles away and literally don't bother with Brighton or Hove anymore. I used to go there for the shops occasionally, but the queues and insane parking fees just sour any trip there now.

The great thing about the Brighton area is the truly excellent bus services, often recognised as the best in the UK. Frequent, reliable and cheap means that you can park your car well away from the centre and just bus in, for as long as you like.Straight in....

Leeds centre is becoming increasingly hard to find any parking at all. The car park nearest to us that has recently closed to be built upon was £32 a day until its closure a few weeks back.
We bought several spaces in the underground car park beneath our apartment and it’s looking like a far better investment than the property upstairs.

The cost of parking in a short stay bay varies between £4.10 and £6.90.
Peak time surcharge from 2 January 2024
From 2 January 2024, all short-stay parking at 10am to 1pm on Monday to Friday will include a maximum £1 surcharge. This is to try and reduce congestion during busy periods and encourage more sustainable travel.
Petrol surcharge on short stay parking
In line with the council’s net zero carbon aims, petrol and petrol hybrid vehicles will be subject to a surcharge on top of the standard tariff. The surcharge will vary with the CO2 emissions produced by your vehicle, the higher the emissions and higher the fuel surcharge.
Petrol fuel surcharge Surcharge per hour
1-185g/km CO2 £2.15
186-225g/km CO2 £2.70
Over 226g/km CO2 £4.00
Diesel surcharge on short stay parking
A diesel surcharge applies to all short-stay parking in Islington. This is to help reduce harmful emissions and improve air quality in Islington. Find out more about diesel surcharge. Diesel surcharge: £7.05 per hour.

Clevedon Somerset, has 5 free town car parks but when you go to the seafront it will cost you £8 for all day at the 2 car parks there. So hit the visitors but not the locals.

I live too far from any town centre to walk so would need to pay to park or take the bus. Instead, I do all my shopping at retail parks with free parking or walk to my local shops if I want a top-up.I am sure I'm the only one doing this...
Coincidentally, I notice how quickly small shops go under in town centres as the high street turns into a sea of vape shops, charity shop and coffee shops.
While on holiday, I parked in two different car parks in Inverness last week. The first was effectively in the city centre and cost me just £1.80 for longer than I needed to go round the shops which seemed pretty reasonable compared to Leeds or York.
The second, was in the outskirts at the swimming pool. I was expecting that one to be free, but it and cost me more than the city centre. It was only when I came back out again that I read the very small notice at the parking machine more carefully. It said something along the lines of "Invitation to pay for parking to support the local council". So the car park was actually free, but they put machines there in the hope that most people would not read the notice and accidentally make a donation to the council.
Back home, although I don't need it as I'm only 5 minutes walk from the centre, the parking in the centre of my small town has remained fairly reasonable. It's measured in pence for short stays and £3 for all day. Strangely enough, the town is still busy with tourists and local people shopping most of the time there are very few empty shops..........
