Hi all,

I have a bit of an odd question about an insurance payout.

(apologies if wrong section)

Basically our car was lightly damaged by someone in a rental car at my wife's work (visitor centre). They claimed fault instantly and were happy to call insurance etc. Their insurer do not have local garages for doing work, and asked us to find a local firm we are happy with to quote the work.

The garage we asked doesn't do insurance work but as this was us being given cash by the insurer he was happy to quote.

The quite was £700 and given the damage to the car (very minimal) i was wondering if we legally have to use the cash for that repair or can we use the money for something else, or even towards a larger deeper scratched area on the rear of the car when my wife had to swerve and rubbed our exterior wall corner.

Obviously if the money needs to be used for this smaller repair thats fine, but we werent 100% sure and wondered if any more insurance minded PH ers could advise a bit.

Thanks all

It's an option, it's called 'cash in lieu of repair'
