I’ve found my car has been damaged by another driver. A Good samaritan was there and challenged them when they tried to flee.

They got out and left false information, but the Good Samaritan found this and took the details of the car. It was recorded by CCTV clearly. As the car was parked infront of one.

The damage in question below.

I already pay £2000 a year for my policy. Last year I was paying over £6k for a different car. I can’t afford to claim for such a minor damage. Should I get the police involved or not just to teach the a lesson?
Or should I just repair the scuff and write it off as another experience in life?

The supermarket wont give me the footage. Only to an insurance company or the police.

This is a matter for the Police

You have the reg number and a witness

The collision is a reportable one to the Police as its fail to stop/fail to report

Can’t see the damage, but if it’s minor, just bear it - not easy- but if you start to involve insurers, though you are not at fault, they will class it as an ‘ incident’ and stealthily bump up your premium on renewal. It hasn’t always been this way, but it is now.Oh, seen it now, image has come through. Small local body shop, I think, where cash is king.

Only problem is - won’t they require I tell the insurer ? For the above reason as another poster.

I had a problem with a Lexus - someone bumped into my mum - no damage, she reported it for vigilance in case it was a crash for cash job. came back as no fault. Added her to my policy for my
EQC - she bumped it up 2k as the insurer said that was on the record. Had to take her off again. Blatant con - there was NO claim, NO damage, NO fault, and she has a clean licence with no points, claims or convictions for 20+ years…. Can’t ever deal with the sailing company insurance for 5+ years due to them having that crap on their record. Escalated to my grievance to the senior management - no budge. Couldn’t be bothered to take them to the Ombudsman as I wasn’t required to have her on my policy.
