They have admitted they did the damage and it will be a replacement screen needed but they have asked me to go through my own insurance and they will pay the excess.

I'm not sure I'm happy with this. I understand my no claims bonus won't be affected but surely I will have to declare this claim for the next 5 years and would I be denied an extra years ncd for this year because of it?

No, a cracked screen doesn't affect NCB or premiums.

My windscreen claim went straight to the windscreen company & didnt contact my insurance, at renewal I asked if I needed to declare a windscreen claim & they said no

When our screen cracked, went through insurance and was a £90 excess for a £970 screen.

Renewal and I mentioned the windscreen claim just to cross all the Ts, didn’t add a single penny to the quote.

They need to take ownership of the situation. The car was in their care.

I had two new windscreen within a week, and have had five in total over the years, and none has any effect on my NCB or renewal premium, or at least mine never have.

Just had to pay the excess and that was it. Never had to mention them at renewal because the question has never been asked.

I agree with Glassman though, they should have their own insurance for such incidents you would think.

Different insurance companies have different views on windscreen claims, it may well not affect NCB or the premium but you risk having a policy cancelled if you do not declare it (I know this from experiance)

Some inscos will suspend NCB for a year after a windscreen claim. There will be a claw-back somewhere.

That accounts for one insco.

Go through the insurance and explain the situation...they will claim from the garage...no excess to pay...no fault
